Check in

OOC (Out Of Character): Hello Christopher! Welcome aboard! We are certainly happy to have you here. My name is James, and I play the ship’s Counselor. I just wanted to give you a few things to keep in mind so that you can get the most out of the club and being a member of the crew.

It’s important to make sure that you always state in the title of your post where it takes place. If you look at the title, I added “CNS Office”. What that does is let everyone who reads the thread 1. know where their characters are, and 2. Call attention to anyone who you are specifically looking to write with. So in this case, it would let me know that you are checking in for your onboarding psych assessment. That helps other players know what they need to respond to first, before reading the other posts for fun.

Also, we write full narrative, third person posts. This means you will write what your character is doing, thinking, seeing, etc. You can set a scene, design small scenarios for your character to deal with (nothing major, that is the role of the GM), and interact with other players outside of the Main Story (called a ‘Sim’ in club terms). So instead of simply saying ‘Check in’, you could do something like “Cadet Rabb made his way to the Counselor’s office. He was new on board and wanted to get his check ins done as soon as he could. He pressed the chime and waited for a response.” or something like that. We encourage all our players to write multiple sentence or multi-paragraph posts. That makes it fun to read for others, and also helps you convey as much information as you want to or need to.

So let’s start off your check in with the Counselor. We will just assume you are there and I will respond, so you will have a good starting point! Excited to have you with us! Let me know if I can be of any assistance!

James

IC (In Character):

An oddly accented voice sounded out from inside as the chime sounded and said “Come in please.” and the door slid open to reveal a space unlike any other on the ship.

The office was lit in a more subdued manner than the rest of the ship; with the light coming from wall lamps rather than the typical overhead lighting and giving a less harsh and much warmer glow. Multiple bookcases with glass enclosed shelves lined one wall, filled with copies and originals of many texts on many different subjects, and a quick glance would show multiple languages as well. The desk was set at an angle against the opposite wall to the door in the corner, allowing for a large open space in the middle. Here there was a couch and a few chairs, one of which sat in front of and facing away from the desk. Pictures hung on the walls, some were even old photographs. Each depicted either places, individuals, or groups of people, and many were in black and white.

Seated at the desk was a plain looking human male with brown hair and brown eyes. He was average looking; the kind of person that would be lost in a crowd of more than four or five people. He wore the blue uniform of the Science and Medical Sections, and Lieutenant Commander pips showed on his collar. There was one distinguishing feature about the man, however. Actual glasses were perched on his nose. He looked up, and the very odd accent issued forth, as if multiple accents were vying for control. “Hello, Cadet. What can I do for you?”
