Korczak smiled softly over the rim of the tea cup as he took another sip. “Pandora’s Box, Lieutenant. And the analogy is not without merit. You have indeed opened a receptacle of a great deal of emotion… both positive and negative. But you need to realize that you are not alone, nor do you have to do this by yourself.” and he chuckled. “After all, I am assigned to this ship for a reason, Lieutenant.” and he took another sip and set down the cup.

Tija nodded, but refrained from pointing out that hadn’t really answered her question yet. Though hopefully he wouldn’t end this session without some sort of guideline. She felt like she really needed it. And that was a feeling that she didn’t like at all.

“Pandora’s Box… the receptacle containing all sickness, disease, corruption, and death. Released into the world of Man by the curiosity of a single woman who was unable to close the box once it was opened, until it was too late.” and Korczak looked intently at Tija for a long moment. “But one thing remained in the box once all those things had been set free. Do you know what that one thing was, Lieutenant?”

Raining her own cup to her lips, Tija took a sip of the tea and thought about his question. She remembered most of the story, her roommate at the Academy had told it more than once. The scientist had been obsessed with ancient Greek mythology and told those myths over and over. And Tiija had mostly listened as they were interesting stories. But she also had studied hard for her own exams and everything. And so she often had blocked her roommates voice out. Not to mention that her brain had started to mix all those myths together. So what was left in the box? She was sure that she knew the answer, but it felt like it was just out of reach.

“Hope.”

“Of course,” the doctor replied and a flicker of annoyance played across her face; despite the fact that she tried not to show it. Though whether she was annoyed with Korczak for answering his own question or with herself for taking so long to answer the question that he ended up answering it instead would be anyone’s guess.

“The point, of which -” he said with no visible recognition of the flash crossing her features, ” - is that you still have hope. And that is a very strong tool to use to help… reconnect… with one’s self. And I will of course help you do so in any way I can. Does that sound like something you would be interested in doing, Lieutenant?”

Tija lightly touched her earring before she nodded. “I would be, Counsellor.” To be honest she was afraid of it, but now that she started talking about what happened and how she was feeling, she was even more afraid of what might happen, if she tried to lock all of that away again. In a slightly softer voice, she added, “Thank you.”

“Of course.” was the only reply Janusz said in return. He then stood and moved around his desk. Tapping a few commands into the interface, he came back as was seated.

“Now then, do you have any questions or concerns you wish to discuss before I finalize my assessment, Lieutenant?”

Korczak, CNS

The sudden switch in topics caught Tija a little by surprise and thus it took her a couple of moments to answer Korczak’s question. Eventually she said, “With the CMO gone, I am - for now - responsible for the training of the medical cadets. While I have assisted in that role since coming aboard, it is a change of responsibility.” After a very brief pause she continued, “You’ve been on the Challenger longer than me, is there anything from your point of view I should keep in mind. With regard to ship and crew an my position in general and specifically with regard to my role as a mentor and teacher to the medical cadets?”

OOC: I don’t think we ever said when exactly this thread is taking place. But I feel like it would take place before the graduation ceremony?
