Counselor's Office - Cadet Taurean Seeks Therapy

“Well,” Anders began, and stopped, pausing to think and tinker with the tiny, replicated espresso cup. “I’m excited to begin working. Is there, uh, any availability in your counseling schedule? Say, for weekly appointments?”

He rustled around inside the pack he was carrying and produced the PaDD that Lt. Garth gave him, detailing his shift scheduling. Looking it over, Anders realized there were far more overnight shifts than he’d initially caught on to. Either way, the cadet knew that his counseling was far from finished, and figured it’d be best to set something up as soon as possible.

Janusz nodded slightly as he took a sip and then, after swallowing, said “Forward me your shift schedule. I can plan around that. As for continued ‘sessions’… we will more than likely, not have time for many. You will not be here on the Challenger long, Cadet. I expect you will be getting a permanent duty station before long.” and he shrugged. “Both the nature of this ship as part of the Academy and your own abilities will see to that.”

The prospect of only being aboard the Challenger a short time stressed Anders out. He figured he’d just be settling in when the call came to graduate and move on out into the world as Ensign Taurean. All this already seemed to move so quickly.

“Well, counselor, we’ll just see, I guess,” he shrugged. “I’ll forward you my shift schedule anyway. However long I’m here, even if we can just fit in a session or two, it’s probably for the best.”

Standing from his seat, Anders stretched slightly and rubbed the back of his neck. He’d been sitting longer than he had thought. As stressful as Starfleet counselors made him, the cadet had decided long ago that any discomfort was on his end; this was just a necessary part of moving on and forward. And more than anything else, Anders wanted to set a course forward, and not be bothered by the noise of his past.

“I hate to be presumptuous,” he admitted, “is there anything else you wanted to speak with me about? Or am I okay to go get my physical?”

Korczak smiled slightly and said “No, nothing else, Cadet. You are free to continue your check ins.” and he stood and held out his hand. “Welcome to the Challenger, Mr. Taurean. I do hope you will find your time here… interesting.”

The two men shook hands, and Anders felt somewhat unsettled by the counselor’s vague words. Interesting is far more plausible than good or enjoyable. Almost anything could be interesting, be it good, bad or anywhere on a spectrum between the two. The cadet refused to bring any more attention to his anxieties and inability to remain calm, however, and offered Korczak a quick and curt nod of affirmation; he mumbled a quiet thanks as he turned on his heel with grace and exited through the door back into the Challenger‘s sterile hallways. They felt safer than the counselor’s highly curated ephemera. Pausing to look back at the door as it swung shut, Anders let out a small sigh and made his way to Sick Bay.
