“I suppose that fewer cases out of the ordinary is to the benefit of everyone.” A question struck Emily’s mind that she couldn’t get rid of. “Does the ship encounter phenomena or situations that bring any medical issues about?”

“Indeed,” Tija replied with a nod, subconsciously touching the scar along her hairline from her right temple to her right ear. Before answering James’ question she leaned slightly back in her chair and was silent for a brief moment, studying the Cadet in front of her. “She does. As an Academy ship our missions are usually shorter, less dangerous and much closer to Sol, but with any mission even ours carry the risk of injuries, illnesses and even death. It doesn’t happen every day or during every mission, but some situations or phenomena do bring medical issues about.” Locking her eyes with James’ Tija continued, “I don’t mean to frighten or overly worry you, but as long as you’re part of Starfleet and/or practice medicine these kind of things will be part of your life. It isn’t always easy. So one thing I highly encourage everyone in my department to do is to find your way to cope with what happens in this job. We all need our outlet; be it through sports or arts, talking to someone or whatever else you can think of.”

“I understand.” Emily sat in silence for a moment. “I’ll find something to help me get through difficulties.”

OOC: As you can see, I cut out some of the old posts from this thread to make it easier to read them. It’s called “snipping”. What you do is delete old posts and the corresponding “posted by” lines and type in the word “snip” instead. Most people will write it in brackets. In a thread like this it’s fairly easy as there are only two players involved. In something like a main sim thread, you want to leave at least one post per person who is involved in the thread. That is at least the rule of thumb. does that make sense?
IC:
“Good,” replied Tija with a nod and small smile. “And my door is always open as well. I know I’m not the most … open … person on this ship, but I want to help as best as I can.” After a short pause, she added, “Do you have any questions?”~Lt. Tija, Asst. CMO

“I think we have talked about everything I need to know. I’m excited. Perhaps a little nervous, I think that will pass with time though.”-Cadet Emily James
“I’m sure it will. Though a certain amount of nervousness can be healthy as well,” Tija replied as she rose to her feet. Gesturing towards her door, she continued, “Let’s go to sickbay for your medical evaluation.”
Letting Cadet James leave her office in front of her, Tija entered sickbay with a PaDD in hand and pointed at a nearby biobed, “Please have a seat, Cadet.” She then took medical tricorder from a nearby tray and then followed James towards the biobed.

Emily sat as directed. Despite her medical training, some part of being the patient put her somewhat on edge.
