Douglas walked into the observation lounge with large black box wrapped around his chest and a tripod on a handle. Douglas walked toward a window and set the box on a table and set up the tripod near a window.

Douglas unpacked the box and extended a 2 metre telescope and placed it on the tripod. “This should get good view.”
He aimed for a green storm on a gas giant, Gliese 687 5.

Schweitzer replied, “Sure. Thanks.” He leaned down to peer through the telescope and studied the thick, roiling green clouds circulating the planet. He stepped back and said, “I have definitely never seen anything like that before. Do you think there is any chance we may be able to detour over to it and investigate after we deal with this distress call?”

Cadet Schweitzer left his quarters and went for a walk around the ship to explore his new environment. After a while, he found himself in the Observation Lounge. He noticed Cadet Douglas setting up a rather large telescope. Douglas appeared to be aiming it for a gas giant visible on the horizon. Schweitzer had always had an interest in astronomy. He took elective courses in it at Stanford as an undergraduate. He frequently visited the Student Observatory and used the SRI 45 radio telescope there.

Not wanting to startle Douglas, Schweitzer approached carefully and asked, “Do you think those storm clouds are made of ammonia or something else? I have never seen clouds that color before.”

Douglas, still looking at the telescope. “I’m not sure, I was using the scanners and it couldn’t break the dense radiation cloud, trying to get a closer look. The storm probably won’t be ammonia. Copper might work but I’m not sure, could just be storm.” Douglas now took the chance to look back Albert. “Want a look?”

“Hm, it wouldn’t matter, we’re close enough to get the best scans we can. The green lightning is interesting though.” standing behind Albert, Douglas squinted his eyes trying to get a glimpse. “You’re an astronomer ey? are you in my department?”
