“Thank you, Captain,” replied Tija. “And I will.” Then it was her turn to fall silent, making this moment a little more awkward than it already was. She felt like this might be a good opportunity to talk some more with Davis in general. But not being the most sociably skilled person, she didn’t quite know what to say. Eventually she asked, “While I’m already here, is there anything else we should talk about? Anything you’d like me to know with regard to my new position as Chief Medical Officer and part of your senior staff?”

If the moment was awkward, Emmy seemed to be completely oblivious to this fact as she stared over Tija’s right shoulder, expecting her to leave now that she had received her answer. Her follow up question took the woman by surprise and her eyes snapped to Tija’s face for the briefest moment. “Is there something you feel we should discuss?” she replied, turning the questions back around on the CMO.
Davis, CO
“I’m not sure,” Tija replied truthfully while a small frown formed on her face. “I guess I’m wondering what your expectations are and if there is anything else you feel I should know?” She wasn’t entirely sure why, but she started to feel nervous. As a result she subconsciously dug her right thumbnail into the skin on the inside of her left forearm; her hands still resting in her lap.

Emmy’s head shifted slightly to the left as she listened to the CMO, causing her short blonde hair to tremble lightly from the movement. “My expectations?” she repeated back, her confusion evident. “I expect you to mentor and train the cadets on board the ship. Has there been some confusion as to that?”
Davis, CO
“No Ma’am, of course not,” replied Tija hastily, turning even paler than she already was. “This is my first posting as a department head. I uhm was just wondering if you have other expectations than those basic ones, but …” She shook her head slightly, making her earring tinkle ever so slightly. “Never mind, I …” Not knowing how to best finish this sentence, her voice trailed off and she wondered if she should just excuse herself or if there was anything she could say to make this situation better.

“I do not have any further expectations,” Emmy replied, firmly, her eyes finally shifting to look over Tija’s face for a few moments. Her neutral expression faded slightly and her voice softened as she commented, “you have excelled so far at the expectations set. Continue to do so.”

Tija relaxed slightly and a small smile started to tug at the corners of her lips and eyes. “Thank you, Captain, I will,” she replied. Rising to her feet, she continued, “I should probably get back to Sickbay. And thank you again for granting me permission to use one of the diplomatic meeting rooms.”
