OOC: This takes place at some point during the two day stretch when the USS Challenger travels to the moon.

IC:
Tija had just been informed of the distress call the Challenger had received and was now going to respond to. She immediately sent a message to all members of her department to inform them that they were to be in sickbay for a department meeting in one hour from now. That done she reviewed what little information they had received through the distress call and then looked for everything she could find in the database on the mining colony in question. In particular she looked for information on population size, species living and working there, the age range of those people, but also any information on the mine itself and its surrounding area that could give her a clue on what types of injures to expect after an accident.

As the time of the meeting approached, Tija took the PaDD with all information she’d been able to find on it and walked into sickbay. In her mind she’d already formed a clear plan of all steps that needed to be taken before they arrived at the moon. But instead of simply telling everyone what to do, she wanted to see how her department (and her cadets in particular) would react to this situation and what they thought needed to be done. Thus she stood at one end of the room, waiting for everyone to gather.

The mining colony, Station P-6, was made up of 12 members. The moon had at least 8 other stations scattered on its surface (creatively named p-1 to p-8). The moon itself, while habitable, sported no advanced native lifeforms.

The local administrator was an Andorian female by the name of Charl Oeuss. Charl had been with the company for many year and had a proven record of being level headed and pragmatic. She was not known to be one prone to panic or trip emergency systems without cause.

Her second in command was also an Andorian. His name was Ressis Th’shiarhen. Known to be a relatively austere man little was available on his personal life but he, too, had multiple commendations for productivity and behavior.

The bookkeeper/quartermaster at the station was a Ferengi named Lobac. Male, and, well, Ferengi. Part of the mining company had been purchased by Ferengi investors and, in addition to ensuring that the profits from the minerals were properly accounted for, was there to ensure that Charl didn’t stray too far from established productivity quotas.

The chief of security at the station was Zesen Borefar, a Bolian. Known to be the most affable of the bunch, she was none the less dependable and had a good record. There were a few blemishes, however, from when she looked the other way and let some of the other miners sneak contraband into the bunks that was discovered during a routine inspection.

The remaining 8 members at the station were miners of various levels of experience and of various ethnic background. The majority were Denebian recruited from the surrounding system.

The mine was, from recent reports, a shaft mine with a main shaft and at least three levels which branched off from the main shaft. It wasn’t the most productive mining station but it wasn’t the worst either. Likely if there was a problem in the mines it was a tunnel collapse. Given the temperature of the moon frostbite, or other elements of exposure, could also play a risk.

As Flores walk into sickbay for the department he goes to meet with aizala “ cadet Flores reporting for the meeting doctor”

Lieutenant Tija greeted him with a nod and small smile, but didn’t say anything at first. Eventually it crossed her mind that as a department head she should probably say at least something. Thus she remarked, “We’ll start as soon as the rest of the department arrives.”

OOC: Pasting everything back in that has been deleted. And don’t forget to sign off ;)

IC:
Flores looked at tija and said “ aye doctor” he took a seat and waits.

Cadet Schweitzer entered the room and overheard the exchange between Cadet Flores and Lieutenant Tija. He approached a seat and stood somewhat stiffly behind it. He offered a weak and nervous smile to the Lieutenant and said, “Cadet Schweitzer reporting as ordered, ma’am.” He nodded at Cadet Flores, pulled out the chair, and sat down.

Tija greeted Schweitzer with a curt nod and a simple “Good,” before turning her attention once more to the PaDD in her hand. This was going to be the first Department meeting she was solely in charge of and to ease her nervous she tried to make sure she remembered all the facts about their upcoming mission perfectly.

Cadet Schweitzer leaned forward to listen intently. He had heard rumblings among the crew about the distress call from the miners. He believed the most likely reason for the call involved either a mechanical failure of the mining equipment, blunt force trauma from a cave-in or other accident, or perhaps asphyxiation or chemical poisoning from the mine itself. However, there was always the possibility of an alien pathogen which would invoke his specialty. He would be ready to help regardless.

OOC: I’m going to pretend everyone is present to move this thread forward, So for everyone who hasn’t had the chance to join yet: Just insert your character arriving before this post (or pretend you’ve been there all along). :)

IC:
After looking from one member of her department to the other, TIja said in a steady voice that easily carried throughout Sickbay, “As you may or may not have heard, the Challenger received a distress call from the mining colony Station P-6. We weren’t able to establish a proper com link and thus have very little information about what might have happened. However, we have some information about the colony itself through our database.” Here she paused momentarily before reading the notes she took about the station and its inhabitants, “The mining colony, Station P-6, is made up of 12 members. The moon were it is located has at least 8 other stations scattered on its surface. Part of the mining company is owned by Ferengi and they seem to be keen to ensure that established productions quotas are kept. The moon itself is habitable, but sports no advanced native lifeforms. According to recent reports the mine is a shaft mine with a main shaft and at least three levels which branch off from the main shaft. Both the administrator, Charl Oeuss, and her second in command, Ressis Th’shiarhen, are Andorian. The bookkeeper and quartermaster is a Ferengi named Lobac. The Chief of Security, Zesen Borefar, is Bolian and it has been noted that she occasionally looks the other way when it comes to contraband. The remaining eight members of the station are miners of various levels of experience and of various ethnic background. The majority of them are Denebian.” After another short pause she contined, “If there was a problem in the mines it is likely that there was a tunnel collapse. Given the temperature of the moon frostbite, or other elements of exposure, could also play a risk.” Looking from one member of her department to the next, she ask, “Before we prepare as best we can for this mission: Do you have any questions?”
