Keval entered the tractor beam emitter room on Deck Thirteen, followed by Cadet Fitzgerald carrying the engineering tookit. The Andorian pulled out his tricorder, scanning for the defective power relay.

“So cadet, let’s see how much of the Academy courses you remember,” Keval said, frowning at his tricorder. “The earlier diagnostics said that Discovery’s tractor beam was reaching a maximum range of 350,000 kilometers. What should the maximum range be?”

(OOC: I’ll give you a clue of where that information is in Discord. Oh, and apologies for Keval Vras - he’s, well, an Andorian. ~Daniel)

“Maximum range for a Discovery Class Ship should be 500,000 kilometers sir.” Fitzgerald responded to the Andorian, smiling. “I think you’ll find my memory to be more than adequate.” The cadet added confidently with a dash of creole charm. He readied the toolkit for use once Vras gave the order.

(OOC: I tried to implement the suggestion you gave me about editing previous posts, hope I did it right ~Dillon)

(OOC: Actually it wasn’t needed here. But don’t worry - I’ll show you a spot below to practice it. Also, a little trick to get around the wonkiness - that’s a technical term - of the posting system. When writing your post, make sure to leave a completely blank line (with no symbols at all) between your post and the earlier posts - otherwise, the system for some reason thinks it’s part of the earlier post. Don’t know why…)

“So it’s either a loss of power, physical damage to the emitter, or a sensor issue with determining the range,” Keval said, studying his tricorder as he walked down an area of the room.

“Now, physical damage is the easiest thing for the diagnostics to pick up, especially for something like a tractor beam emitter - so unless the improbably happened and the diagnostic systems are also not working properly, we can rule that out… or at least leave it as a final option,” Keval explained to Fitzgerald, pausing as he frowned at his tricorder.

“If there was a problem with the sensors, we probably would have seen an issue elsewhere with other ship systems that relied on the same sensor readings. So…” Keval trailed off, his antennae going up. He turned to the cadet. “Hand me the relay uncoupler.”

(OOC: Here is where you can write your character’s response to the my character’s request, plus anything else your character may do/say in response. Make sure to leave a blank line above and below your text.)

As Fitzgerald assisted Keval, the Andorian tapped a keypad next to a panel, opening up to reveal a set of power relays, including one that was flashing intermittently next to a bioneural gel pack. “Aha - the faulty power relay. And we’ll probably want to replace that gel pack while we’re here.”

“So, cadet,” Keval said, looking at his tricorder readings one more time, before completely changing topics all together. “What professor taught you warp field theory at the Academy?”
