Schweitzer nodded and let Lt. Tija finish the briefing. He shared her discomfort about being sent into a situation that he did not fully understand. Schweitzer wondered why there wasn’t a field medic or someone on the surface who could report in with a status report and casualty count. But he knew he couldn’t cry over spilled milk. He would just have to keep his eyes open and look to help in any way he could.Cadet Albert Schweitzer (Medical)
Mika listened to the briefing intently, but quietly. They didn’t have much information, but she figured, with time, they’d learn something useful. Assumptions weren’t much help, but it was all they had for now, and it would have to do. They could come up with theoretical ideas, maybe, Mika decided, and then they’d have already brainstormed some ideas… unless whatever the situation was completely threw them for a loop. Like a plot twist in a good book, she thought, and the idea entertained her just a bit.
-Cadet Mika Tandra (Doctor)After letting her gaze wonder once more from one person to the next to see if anyone had any other questions, Tija continued, “So this less than ideal situation has several consequences for us: First of all we need to be prepared for several scenarios. From mild injuries to severe ones and even death and maybe infectious disease.” At the latter she briefly looked at Schweiter as that was his field of expertise. “Thankfully the mining colony os small, so even if everyone down there got injured, we should be able to treat them all in sickbay. Nevertheless I want everything ready for triage before we arrive at the moon. And just in case we need more triage space after all, I want the secondary sickbay on Deck 4 prepped as well.” Looking straight at her cadets l, she continued, “You will be mainly responsible for that. Though the nurses and medical technicians will of course help you. And if you have any questions, concerns or ideas don’t hesitate to come to me.” A little of her sternness seemed to disappear as she finished, “Also, I want you all to make sure to get enough sleep before we arrive at the colony. We all need to be well rested in order to be able to help those people. Any other questions?”
~Lt. Tija, CMO
Schweitzer smiled and nodded at Lt. Tija when she acknowledged him. When she finished he asked, “If we are going to be treating a group of people in two locations, we should check the environmental controls throughout the ship before we leave to make sure that there is no cross-contamination between the two sickbays or between the two sickbays and the rest of the ship. Would you like me to take care of that?”
