Cadet Fixem ran her hand over the smooth side of one of the Challenger’s Valhalla-class runabouts. She’d heard that the XO was tasked with making sure that it was ready to evacuate the miners if needed and now, it was just a matter of waiting for him and whatever cadets planned to help out…

Nameless Cadet Fixem

Balling his fist tightly K’sang glared at the turbolift door, his orders to assist with preparing shuttles for evacuation efforts IF they were needed. “To be placed aside like some… Va Qa’Hom! I am MORE than a mindless t’gla meant to move boxes.” He was thankful to be alone for the moment as he pressed his other hand against the bulkhead, with a sigh he closed his eyes and ran through what he was told once more. “No, these are not the excuses of a Tahkeck. A captain would not send her Second to oversee such a tasking without reason.”

Regaining his composure, K’sang waited for the chime signaling his arrival on the shuttlebay deck before standing straight. As the doors opened he could see people moving about the launch deck where he would need to quickly familiarize himself with which zones he would be assigned to if he were going to be of any use and proceeded to find where cadets would be mustering for individual assignment.
OOC:
-Va Qua’hom = Small Rodent generally considered to be useless (va) used as a lesser degree of anger or insult.
-T’gla = animal native to Q’onos known for being mindless
-Tahkeck = Strong Klingon insult, “the procrastinator” or ever planning and never acting.

-K’sang, Cadet

Mara had already found herself on the Shuttlebay Deck along with everyone else, turning around and smiling at K’sang as soon as she spotted him.
“K’sang! Hello! You got assigned here too then?”
K’sang had been the first, and so far only friend Mara had made since her arrival on the USS Challenger. She liked him, he seemed nice. The young cadet wasn’t too sure what she was meant to be doing, but figured all would be revealed soon, and so she stood there, keeping kind of close to K’sang.

“It seems so, I look forward to seeing what you can do.” K’sang fell in line with Mara as they approached Cadet Fixem.

Cadet Fixem waved to the two new arrivals. “Hello there!” she greeted them enthusiastically. “The XO is on his way down, but we need to make sure this runabout can withstand traversing those storms a few times in the event we need to get everyone evacuated. Of course, if anyone has any ideas of how we can get transporters to function, that could work too, but I think that’s a lost cause…” Her voice trailed off as she offered a shrug and then brightened again. “Any ideas where we can start?”

Cadet Fixem

Mara looked at Cadet Fixem for a second, looking around and thinking to herself. Fixem was right, the transporters were pretty much busted.
“We should probably check the systems to see if the runabout is working properly, if not we should rectify the situation as fast as we can. They’re counting on us to get this right”
Unsure, Mara went back to thinking, was she right? Her father always did say that was Mara’s biggest issue: she always managed to make herself think twice about what she was thinking, never always sure whether or not she was right, but needing to always be right in at least one way.

K’sang began to stroke his beard as his brow started to furrow, “Our biggest enemy is knowledge at the moment, we need to know what kind of storm we are dealing with. It sounds like ionization is a common problem: Electrical? Radation? Partical debris and high winds?” he looked between the two, “For the moment until we can get a meteorological report. Mara has the best plan, level four diagnostic of internal controls? Also considering the situation, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take inventory of first aid supplies.”

-K’sang, Science Cadet

“The answer is yes Cadet,” Max said walking in at the end of K’sang’s comment. “Well maybe not radiation, but the rest, definitely.”

Stopping before the cadets he looked over the group, it was time to see how good they were at problem solving. “Not a bad idea to start with making sure the runabout is in good shape, but we are going to have to do more then that. Getting down is never the issue, it’s getting back that we have to worry about. Ideas on how we can make sure that we get this runabout back? We are going to be dealing with plenty of electrical interference, plus strong weather patterns.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

K’sang thought a moment longer before turning to the XO, “With a little help, a handful of shield emitters, and a few portable generators we might be able to set up a Honeycomb Matrix and adjust shield output to make a portable windbreak… or a pretty looking bomb.” Shrugging off the idea, the Klingon frowned looking down at the floor. “… Bomb…”
His expression suddleny changed as he began looking for a PaDD. “What if we’re looking at this in the wrong way?” K’sang began to pace around in a circle as he continued looking, “Mara? Are you any good with Partical Physics? I was thinking, if we were to use something similar to hygroscopic cloud seeding by detonating low yeld explosives into the storm itself. Could we in theory, artifically create a supercharged localized event using plasma?”
-K’sang, Science Cadet

OOC: Well now the GM has to go do homework before you ask any serious questions.

GM Wombat

Mara looked at K’sang, thinking for a moment. And she too began to pace, her arms up towards her face and her hands doing something peculiar… Calculating? It kind of looked like she was pressing buttons in mid-air

“Yes! In theory that would work, if we fired a photon bomb at the storm it could work- ”

She paused for a moment, going back to making weird movements with her hands then thinking about the clouds back on Earth, and her geography lessons about the life cycles of clouds.

“But every cloud dissipates, and a photon bomb explodes at a high temperature… Maybe we wouldn’t be able to create a supercharged localised event… But maybe we could dissipate the cloud so it’s no longer a problem?”

Mara looked at K’sang for a second, she was still unsure about her calculations. Had she undercalculated the cloud’s dissipation temperature? Had she overcalculated the photon bomb’s explosive temperature? Either way, it was important for her to think of a plan B if her calculations were off. Perhaps K’sang was fully correct.

“If in the event that my calculations are wrong, and your plan works the way you thought… Then we’d need to make sure the event isn’t too supercharged, too much and we could risk ripping a hole straight into the ship!”
