“Well yes.. and No.” K’sang paused, “The idea is to create an ebb. By creating a super heated zone the storm will get worse true, but we control where that localized event happens. In theory by doing this we make a massive magnetic field resulting in rapid an eventual dispersion of ionized particles for a short time, even a few minutes might buy enough time for the roundabout to get off the ground. The hard part would be setting up a mortar several kilometres away, we cant rely on remote detonation so we would either have to set up a timer to coincide with said window for takeoff. Or leave an away team until after the storm has passed to reload per trip and they.. would need a Faraday Cage that doubled as shelter… that and some kind of correctional guidance to prevent the proverbial shell from blowing off course.”
-K’sang, Scientist Cadet

Mara looked over to the XO for a second before looking around. She thought for a moment, could it work? Or was she just going on a tangent again?

“It could work, I was just wondering… Would there be a way to use the storm as a catapult sort of contraption? Where the localised event causes the ship to get up and fly faster? I’m not too sure if my mind is wondering off again, but if we can create that then it’ll make the journey easier, ride the storm sort of scenario”

She went back to thinking, no… The ship would break… Unless …

“K’sang, if my assumptions are right and we can create the localised event and the catapult situation, we’re going to need to build a Faraday cage, or at least reinforce the runabout’s structure to be able to handle the force of the storm… Actually I think we should do that anyway, just to be sure”

“And what is the risk to the runabout?” He had to stop himself from rolling his eyes, why did they have to go to the complicated solution right away. He had just been planning on reinforcing the shields, and increasing the thrust ratio on the engines. “Not to mention, how would this catapult work? How reliable would it be?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“I have no idea” he shrugged, ” I was thinking about how to give you navigation and an approximate time of return to the challenger so its not a case of the blind waiting for the blind. The roundabout itself wont have much if any trouble with lightning because its insulated, and with a polarized hull its unlikely anythings going to come flying off.”
-K’sang, Science Cadet

Mara looked between the two of them, going back to pacing around she the stopped mid pace, and turned to look at the XO
“Complications to the side, we should reinforce the runabout no matter what we decide, if it’s reinforced then we minimise the risks involved. By that I mean the shields, and maybe the hull too”
She then looked around, thinking about her idea for a second.
“I never said my idea was a reliable one, it would work as a kind of geiser. Heat up the storm enough with a photon bomb, and ride the waves… But it’s a terrible idea with no guarantee it’ll work”

~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}

Max chuckled, “Well the first step is admitting it.”

“Okay, let’s start with reinforcing the runabout, shields and hull. I do want to look into that idea to help dissipate the storm. What do you need to look into that more? Because any edge we can get, we should take.”
