This was it. The real deal. Not just some simulated bridge scenario at the academy, this place was an actual starship. The ambient sounds of the crew, the beeping of the computers, the low whirr from the heart of the ship that seemed to rumble through the walls. But there would be ample time to get to know Challenger, and he still needed to get things sorted out. In fact, sickbay was right down the corridor. As he reached the door, he anxiously bit his lip. His first physical. He knew it was incredibly mundane, but the excitement and novelty of it being on a starship were overwhelming. Palms sweaty, he entered.
“Hello? I’m Cadet Greiss, I was told to come here for my boarding physical?”

OOC: Welcome aboard, L Lay! This is a great post! Well done :) Just one tiny thing: Here at STF we always sign off at the end of a post to make it easier to identify who posted what. You can see how I do it at the end of my post. Also with the way STF works, you can always insert part of your reply in-between paragraphs, if you like :)

IC:
Right next to the door stood a tall and slender Trill, who seemed to be prepping some hyposprays and other equipment. Her long blond hair tied back into a neat pony tail. At the sound of his voice, she looked up from her work and a wide smile lit up her whole face. “Welcome on the USS Challenger, Cadet Greiss. I’m Ensign Yaba Priel, one of the medical technicians here. I hope you had a good trip?”

Gesturing towards the biobeds, NE Priel suggested, “Why don’t you have a seat on one of the biobeds and I go and fetch one of the doctors?” Without really waiting for a reply, she headed off, assuming that her suggestion would be fine with him,

Greiss nervously stammered, trying to respond, but by that point, the Ensign had already left. He sat down on the closest empty biobed and ran his hands through his hair. He never thought he would make it this far, but here he was, on a training ship with a batch of the brightest cadets in his class. He didn’t think that highly of himself, he was pretty skilled, but not a genius. So why would they have assigned him here? Perhaps he was being too harsh on himself. Greiss took a series of deep breaths. He needed to relax. It was still his first day.

Greiss nervously shifted in the biobed as he thought about his assignments. He was told to go to engineering first to report to his department head, but sickbay was on the same deck, so it wouldn’t hurt to have the physical first, right?
Who was he kidding? The Chief Engineer, Vras was his name, right? Was going to tear him to shreds for this. “Way to go. Screwing up your first impression with your boss in the job you’ve strived for since childhood, classic Greiss Move.” He thought. The Trill had been gone a fair while now, or at least he thought, as sometimes the anxiety made time feel long and drawn out. Either way, Vras was going to chew him out for something when he got to engineering.

Cadet Greiss would be waiting another several minutes before Cadet Mika hurried toward the biobed he had sat on, holding a tricorder and PaDD. “Hello! Sorry for the wait. Super busy today,” She said. “I’m Cadet Mika, I’ll handle your boarding eval. What was your name again?” Mika took a deep breath, slowing herself down. No need to hurry, Mika. No one’s going anywhere, She thought. She knew new Cadets were often quite nervous, heck, she herself was super nervous when she boarded. So, she didn’t want anyone to think she was just trying to hurry it along and go. As mundane as these evals had become for her, she thought all work and experience was important. And by the looks of him, Cadet Greiss appeared to be very nervous.

Greiss tapped his fingers on the side of the biobed. “Winston. uh, Winston Greiss.” his eyes nervously darted around. “I’m sorry to burden you, especially with all of us new cadets around here.” He had to think of an excuse to get out of here, and fast.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply!

IC:
“Alright,” she said, looking at the PaDD screen and pressing on something. “Any changes in diet, sleeping habits? Any illnesses or trips outside of the federation? Or anything just plain unusual?” She asked, giving him a reassuring smile.

OOC: No problemo!

IC: “No. Nothing here to worry about! I- ummm.... yes! I had a physical just a week ago! So I should really be going now!” He gave a weak grin to hide his stress.

“Woah, wait right there,” Mika said, in the best stern voice she could muster. “Doesn’t matter when your last physical was, you’ve got to pass this one before you can report for duty,” She continued, and then added, “What’s got you in such a hurry anyway?” As she spoke, she grabbed a tricorder, pulling off the little node. “And just to get you out of here ASAP, I can scan while you talk.” She said.

Even though no one was there to listen in on the conversation, Winston lowered his voice. “I came here since it’s on the same deck as the shuttlebay, but I didn’t think it would take so long… Now I’m going to be late to report in, and I’m going to get in major trouble.” He sighed. “It’s my first day here, and I think I might not be even able to compete with the rest of the new batch that recently boarded. I’ve worked so hard to get here, but… I don’t feel like I deserve to be here. I’m just going to make an incompetent fool of myself.” He looked at Mika, distraught and anxious. “I’m sorry you had to hear all that. I’ll save it for the counselor.”
~Cadet Winston Greiss, Engineer

OOC: You’ll get to decide what the scanner says here since it’s your charrie :)

IC:
“I’m sure your department head will understand your tardiness for your physical,” She said. She had not talked much to the Chief Engineer, but she was sure it wasn’t going to be too big of a deal. “I’m sure you’ll do great, first days are always hard,” She said to him. And with that, she began scanning him with the tricorder, moving the little scanner bit down from his head to his feet close to his body. While she did, she kept her eyes fixed on the screen.

On the screen, she could see heightened blood pressure, and he was sweating harder than a Mugato in Vulcan’s Forge. Other than that, she also observed repaired ankle and leg bone fractures, some healed plasma cuts on his hands and an artificial tooth.

“Besides your ah, anxieties about your first day, you appear to be completely healthy,” she said, stepping away once she had finished scanning him. “You are officially cleared for duty, medically. On the other hand, I do recommend that visit to Counselor Korczak.” Mika told him.

~ Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

“Yes. Wonderful. excellent.” He said, trying to rush through his words. “Uhhhh… bye, I guess.” And just like that, Greiss hopped out of the biobed, dashing out the doors, almost as quickly as he came.
