Finding her way from Security to Sickbay was easy enough, but Ashlyn didn’t care for easy. Since she had time, first chance she got she asked a passing engineer for permission to enter the Jeffereies Tubes to make her way to her next appointment. The engineer had a rather confused expression as she explained her chosen route, unfortunately this didn’t convince the engineer. “Sorry kid, until someone higher up the chain says you have permission to go it alone, you’ll need an escort in there and I can’t afford the time to be one.” Ashlyn made ready a retort that fell silent. They were right, she didn’t really have sufficient permission for entering the potentially more restricted areas in the event she got lost, so she relented and moved on to the turbolift.

Turbolifts are terrifying things, the engineering behind them is sound and accidents are few and far between, but that doesn’t stop them from happening. When they do, the lift becomes a sealed coffin for those trapped inside. Okay, maybe it’s not the turbolift but the enclosed space with no visible exit that makes Ashlyn nervous, more so when others are present and she has to put on the mask to hide her discomfort. “Deck 4”

Glad to be off the turbolift, Ashlyn finds her way though the corridor to Sickbay, earlier than planned. She had planned on the Jefferies Tubes, oh well, better luck next time. She entered sickbay and started looking for the doctor.

OOC: That’s a great first post! And welcome aboard the Challenger! Just one little note, on STF we generally sign our posts just so we know who’s talking. So, next time at the end, just put you character’s name, similar to how I do :)

IC:
Cadet Mika’s mind was not in her work that day. So much so that she’d already asked three people if they were the Cadet Trenton she was supposed to be giving a boarding physical to. Finally, she stopped nearby to the actual Cadet Trenton, and said, “Oh, hello! Were you..” She looked down at her PaDD again. “Cadet Trenton?” She asked, giving Ashlyn a smile.

Cadet Trenton leaned away being slightly uncomfortable with the new person’s closeness. With a silent calming breath and a quick but obvious scan of the cadet that addressed her from head to toe, she concluded them to be potentially safe. “Affirmative.” She looks at her own PaDD to check the time, “I do not believe I am late, was my appointment rescheduled?” A raised eyebrow follows the cadet’s question.

-Cdt Ashlyn Trenton

“No, we’re just busy, I’m sorry. Come on, have a seat on one of the biobeds.” Mika said, leading her into the Sickbay. “Is there anything I need to know to go in your file? Anything like illnesses or changes in diet or sleeping?” She asked the other Cadet once they had reached one of the biobeds. She noticed how the Cadet seemed to look her up and down, almost like she was sizing Mika up, perhaps? Mika would never let it show, but Trenton struck her as a tad odd.

The Cadet sat very precariously on the biobed as if she were ready to bolt off at the slightest of disturbances. “It’s a new place, so sleep is going to be difficult but this isn’t really anything new. Should be under section three of my records as a standard prescription sleeping agent that will result in a regular visit for the next two weeks as I adapt to new surroundings. There is also a dampener for pain that I’m still on for the ground combat training accident. Outside of that, nothing new to add.” Looking at her medical record was long for a Cadet, several prior injuries all recovered from but still a part of her Starfleet record. A missing finger, multiple broken bones, a major infection that needed to be treated. A lot must have happened in the blank spot in her childhood, there are quite a few annual checkups that apparently never happened.

-Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

OOC: In this one I’m going to be scanning your character, so you’ll decide what the results are. In any thread that doesn’t have a GM we get to decide that stuff :)

IC:
Mika read through the file, nodding. “Of course,” she said. “You seem to be, ah, rather unlucky in the health department, hm?” she commented, and then quickly moved on. “Oh, I’m sure you’ll settle in quickly. Every one here is quite nice,” She told her.

She picked up a tricorder, pulling off and readying the little node. “A quick check to make sure everything looks good and then you’ll be on your way, okay?” She said. And then she began holding the little node piece close to the other Cadet’s body and moving it down from her head to her feet, slowly, watching the screen carefully.

The Cadet seemed to be okay if tense, the tricorder reading elevated heart rate and muscular tension that comes standard with a fight or flight response. “I…uh…struggle with…people. Specifically new people, uh, you’re really close and that makes me…nervous. The…uh…ship could be a party with weekend drinking on the regular. I, uh, would still be…uncomfortable.” The tricorder shows signs of scar tissue, grafting tissue on several bones previous broken, a few bone replacements, and signs of recent (within the last six months) surgery on the cadet’s spine. Other than signs of the pain medication in her bloodstream, Trenton is in otherwise good condition.

((OOC: I plan to do a full report on the extent of Trenton’s injuries, scars, and history at a later date.))

-Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

OOC: Awesome! Your character’s bio page might be a good place to do that :)

IC:
Once she had finished the scan, Mika recorded the results on the PaDD. “I saw it in your file, and the scan confirms it, you’ve had back surgery in the last six months. You’ll have to be quite careful, just to be sure you don’t damage anything,” she told Trenton. “And we’ll want to see you back here soon just to make sure it still looks good. For now, however, you are cleared for duty.” She said, offering the Cadet a smile.

Though still tightly wound up and ready to run, Ashlyn carefully and cautiously slides off the biobed and back onto her feet. Clearly relieved that she is still cleared for duty, she weakly returns the doctor’s smile. “I’ll be sure to take care to not challenge any Klingons to a fistfight then.” Trenton’s attempt at humor is…lacking for sure, given the medical report only stated the injury was sustained during training it wouldn’t take much to believe that something went wrong between the little human and the giant warrior that resulted in a back injury. “I’ll be back in before lights out for the regularly scheduled appointments. Will that be you or should I expect another doctor at the end of the day?”

-Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

Mika grinned regardless at Trenton’s attempt at a joke. “As much as I’m sure K’sang would enjoy a fistfight, yes, I’d hope you do.” In response to the Cadet’s last question, she said, “It might be someone else, but you can always ask for me if you’d be more comfortable with me.” Mika was rather commited to her job, after all, and she would not mind being called in if it would make someone happier at all.

Ashlyn stood up and straightened her uniform back into position, “I would greatly appreciate that, it will prevent the need to work with people I’m unfamiliar with. It’s harder to get to know and trust a lot of people at once over a few at a time. I appreciate your understanding.” Cadet Trenton makes a few notes on her own PaDD for the appointment then looks back to Cadet Mika. “Anything I can do for you in return? Being on call when not on duty isn’t really a standard offer and I would feel bad about not doing something in return.”

-Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

“I’ll keep that in mind. For now, however, don’t worry about it,” Mika told her. She didn’t really plan on cashing in that favor, but she had no doubt Trenton would follow through if Mika ever did need anything. “On that note, you should be on your way. You have other check-ins to complete, I’d assume? And your department head will be waiting to meet you.”
