OOC: This is a continuation of something that started in Aili’s physical pre-sim. I’ll likely start up the ‘next day’ sim once we’ve finished this one, where all would be welcome to join! :)

As Aili stammered her sentence, Tandra grew nervous. Is she gonna ask… that question? And then she said, “check in…” and Tandra was left somewhat confused. How was that a question to make Aili so nervous? “Oh- uh, yeah, I guess we should, huh? What if they’re, um, back on the hill, looking for us?” She said, almost disappointed. You probably just misread things, Tandra, you’re good at that. she thought, also turning to look at the lake.

Reaching into a slim pocket in her trousers, Aili produced a near flat, circular device. Holding it in her left palm, she pressed its singular visible button, prompting a holographic display to emerge above it. Swiping and scrolling, she eventually reached a list of names. Looking through them, her face fell into a frown. “I… don’t understand”, she said in a bemused tone. “Huh. Something, well the system, well probably I, have messed things up… Only half of the the cadets were invited for today, and the rest for tomorrow. Oops…” Turning to Mika, Aili sported an apologetic expression which was somewhat insincere but partly genuine, leading into an apology which would act as a proxy for her asking forgiveness for misleading the other cadet. “I’m sorry, it looks like everyone else who was invited for today is on duty…” She gritted her teeth, worried that Tandra would be angry for having her time wasted. Everyone was always busy here. Time was precious.

Tandra got the hint that she had been misled, but she did not find herself overly angry. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?” She asked. She wanted to be angry, she really did, but at the same time, she knew that was exactly the sort of crap she herself would pull, and she couldn’t bring herself to be upset. Tandra didn’t at all consider it time wasted, she had really enjoyed it, and it was quite relaxing, which was nice. So, she decided to let it go. Everyone did questionable things once in a while, right?

Aili’s consciousness hit a wall in that moment. “I…”

“Just, next time, it might be easier on everyone if you just ask me, okay?” She said. It was a genuine piece of advice, but she wore a goofy grin. “I promise I don’t bite. And I might even say ‘yes’.”

“I mean…”. Aili’s head was spinning. How did she? Was it that obvious?, she questioned. Her dazed state wasn’t congruous with her keeping her balance and as such, she soon lost all control of it. Beginning to tip sideways, suddenly realising what was happening, Aili shot her arms forwards in an attempt to grab at the one thing in reach, Mika, to no avail. Within moments she was plummeting the several metres down the steeper side of the rocky peak to the ground below, her arms still outstretched. She landed roughly with a smack, a sharp pain running up her left arm. “Ghaaa!”, she shrieked through gritted teeth.

“Are you okay?” Mika asked, hurriedly, but carefully making her own way down the rock. Reaching the bottom, she rushed over to Aili and crouched down. “Let me help,” she said, and then waited for Aili to let her look. Tandra felt guilty, as if it were somehow her fault Aili had fallen. She knew it was an accident, but she couldn’t shake the feeling. She wondered if she should’ve just pretended she hadn’t realized that Aili had set all this up for the two of them, or maybe just been less… forward? It doesn’t matter, she thought, shaking her head.

“Ahhhhh… Yes, I’m fine”, Aili responded as she slowly brought herself up with her right arm to sit against the rockface. “I think it’s a fracture in my wrist. That’ll be my third broken bone… It doesn’t feel too bad though, I just need to get to sickbay, need a doctor”. Rotating her head ever so slightly to face Tandra, the slight grimace she’d been maintaining let up as her lower lip wobbled. Seconds later her head was thrown back in a fit of laughter and her functioning hand patted Tandra on the shoulder.

“Good thing you’ve got one, now let’s get you to sickbay,” Tandra said, her voice soft, full of concern. And then Aili started laughing, and Tandra was left completely lost. “Is… Is something funny?” She asked. She had been about to cancel the hologram program so they could get to the sickbay ASAP, but Aili’s fit of laughter had distracted her.

Spluttering a bit, retracted her hand from Tandra’s shoulder to her own mouth, choking her laugh. “Hmm, ahem… Just, the last 60 seconds were quite a ride. That’s all… Well, doctor”, Aili spoke through her fist as her knuckles coyly stroked her lips, “I guess I’m all in your capable hands”. Aili’s fall had knocked some of the care and reservedness out of her. She wasn’t going to do or say anything serious, but she began toying with Tandra without much of a thought.

“Computer, stop simulation,” Tandra said, causing the lake and mountains to disappear. Now, they were sitting in a blank room with a starship door at one end. ” Come on, let’s get you to Sickbay,” She said, doing her best to ignore Aili’s… fall induced silliness. Once they got to Sickbay, she planned to give her a full once-over just to make sure her wrist was the only thing she’d hurt in the fall.

Aili thanked Tandra as the other girl helped her to her feet and shook she shook her head as if to clear it. As they made their way into the corridor, she piped up with a smile. “So fifteen hundred hours is my usual time for a run. Will you be off-duty to join me?”

(Cadet McMorran - Science)

Mika smiled. “I am off duty at that time. Where should I meet up with you?” she asked, as she continued leading Aili toward the Sickbay. “And hopefully next time, no one manages to injure themselves, yes?”

“I believe your quarters aren’t so far from mine. Shall I jog along and meet you outside?” Aili looked down at her broken wrist, gently turning it only to be rewarded with a sharp pain. She always ended up breaking her bones in the most silly ways…

(Cadet McMorran - Science)

“Yes, that’s perfect. I’ll be waiting for you,” Mika said to Aili. “Maybe we can make a little competition out of it, huh?” She said, having just then thought of it.
