Nijix and her group made their way to the mine’s entrance, spotting the engineering team. The second group seemed set in their own task and didn’t need distractions. She directed her team to move around them then into the entrance. Before going in, she gave Vras a briefing on their intentions. finishing up, she was the last to enter.

  • Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Cadet Mika followed Lieutenant Tavium toward the mine’s entrance. When the Lieutenant stopped to biref Lieutenant Vras, Mika passed by her and headed into the mine with the other Cadets, wanting to get a look at the situation at hand.

Rainns, still frustrated with his last exchange with the doctor, was happy to be separated from her. Arriving at the entrance, he went with the other Cadet and kept pace with her. “I don’t think we’ve met,” he said to the young doctor who had accompanied the group. Rains was still looking about the tunnel, making sure nothing was out of the ordinary. “I’m Cadet Rainns”.

“Cadet Mika, nice to meet you,” Mika replied. She was still nervous. She hadn’t expected to be separated from Lieutenant Tija. Oh, stop worrying so much, Mika, She thought, with a deep breath. You’ve always done fine before, you won’t let anyone down unless you freak out. She thought. And along with that, Lieutenant Tavium must be just as experienced, right? On the other hand, now that they were separated from Tija, she felt the need to explain. “You know, Lieutenant Tija isn’t usually so snippy like that. I don’t think she meant to bite your head off,” she told Rainns.

Walking into the head frame, the doors whooshed open. Well more like ground open into a small antechamber. To the left of the main door was another door labeled “Main Lift” with some buttons on the side. across the antechamber (or to the right of the door when the away team walked in) was another door labeled “Operations”.

Stopping in front of the fork in the path Rainns waited for his CO to issue an order. He finally turned back to Cadet Mika, “Its fine, I’m not really offended, just frustrated, she looked she was having a panic attack on the runabout on the way down and I was always taught to let security lead the way when in an unknown environment, which I feel this qualifies as. If that makes her upset, so be it I suppose, in my opinion, she isn’t exactly acting like someone who is in a stable sense of mind.”

As the team made their way through the mine tunnels, the path rapidly became more and more difficult as they encountered debris from the collapse, with abandoned and disabled mining equipment punctuating the area.

For a bit, Nijix had been distracted trying to observe her surroundings. Her mind mentally making landmarks for the worse case scenario. It had been more practice than habit which forced her to focus on it. As they came to the divide, the CoS paused.

She turned to face the two Cadets, making sure they had the rifles.

“We’ll head down the mine shafts and see if we can locate the miners.” She gestured for the tunnel, leading the way until they came to the first obstruction. Meanwhile, she explained they would be doing.

“Rainns, you and I will be clearing the rocks and freeing the miners. Cadet Mika you’ll help clear the rocks until we find any injured, but makes sure to keep back. I rather not have any of our medical personnel hurt. Is that clear, you two?”

She glanced back at them, ensuring they heard her.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium,

OOC: accidentally split the thread! Just fixing it here :)

IC:
Mika nodded. “I’ll be careful, Lieutenant,” she said. She hoped nothing happened to any of them, but she realized that they had to plan for the worst possible outcome, while simultaneously hoping for the best possible outcome.

Sometime during Tavium’s explanation of duties, a small faint voice chirped out: “Hello? Is anyone out there? We need some help back here.” The voice was muffled and very far away, but probably closer than it appeared due to the dampening affect of the rock.

GM Wombat

Rainns quickly turned his line of sight toward the direction of the voice, slightly on edge, but doing his best to make sure his peers could not tell.

Nijix’s gave Mika a small, reassuring smile. A token that everything would work out fine and no one was going to get hurt. They were all capable individuals who knew the risks.

“Good, that’s what I want to hear.” The Cos stated then caught the cry for help. Her head jerked into the direction she thought she heard it call from.

“Rainns, we’ll need to keep them talking, so we can locate them.” Nijix moved deeper into the tunnel, her voice calling out. She expected Rainns to come up with the next bit of dialogue after hers.

“Yes, we arrived from the Challenger. We heard your distress call and coming with medical help. Keep talking so we can find you.”

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

The feminine voice said, faintly, “Well don’t you have a map of the tunnels? I am in, uh… tunnel two section 4A.” There was a pause of silence, “Although I can’t be sure. It could be 4B.”

GM WOmbat

Upon hearing the voice, Mika had snapped her head towards it, like the others. Keeping quiet for the time being, she let Tavium talk with the person. And then she said, “We need to find out if they’re injured. It’ll let us know how quickly we need to find them.”

~ Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

“We do have a map and working our way toward you. Do you have anyone injured? And how badly?” Nijix hollered back, following Mika’s suggestion.

While waiting for a reply, she pulled out her data pad and popped up a map. She leaned close enough so Rainns and Mika could see too. Her finger pointed at the tunnel section labeled 4A and 4B.

“We have one of two choices: we can split up or start with one tunnel then check the other one. Unless one of you have a better idea?” She looked to the Cadets for their answer.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

The tunnels were more or less like ships, with a sequential order to things, meaning section 4A was closer to that main shaft than 4B but still the fourth branch off of the main second branch.

“Uh… Well there is some damage to the tunnel, might be a little unstable. I was trying to get back to the shelter in here to see about the other guys but uh… Leg is stuck so not going very fast,” the voice grunted. “Please hurry. Or at least design me a cool prosthetic.”

GM Wombat

Rainns looked toward his commanding officer, “If time is of the essence I suggest we momentarily separate, cover more ground in less time.” Rainns wasn’t fond of his suggestion, but he felt it was the best course of action seeing as there were people in desperate need of quick help.

Cadet Joseph Rainns- Security

“I agree, that way we can check both tunnels at once,” Mika said. “He said his leg is crushed, and that on its own can cause a lot of problems, besides, you know, the obvious, so time is of the essence.” She told them. She had looked at the map, and it looked… really, really confusing to her. She had no idea where they were, let alone which way tunnels 4A and 4B were.

=/\= Challenger to Tavium. Status report. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

OOC: For anyone unfamiliar with NE, it stands for Nameless Ensign. These are Non player characters and some times used to fill roles for certain situations. The player that creates a particular NE has control over them.

IC: Nijix had been about to answer the two Cadets when her communicator popped on and the CO asked for an update. She tapped her badge.

=^= Tavium here. We’ve entered the tunnels and heard a voice asking for help. We plan to separate and locate them. They might have some injured. When we find them, we’ll request for the Challenger to lock and beam them out. =^=

She turned to the Cadets with a determined look.

“All right, you two and Doe take tunnel 4A. I’ll take the rest with me and search 4B. If you don’t find anyone, feel free to double back and head toward us. Keep your channels open at all times and be careful. Rainns, you’re heading this group. Cadet Mika can help you with decisions over the wounded.”

With that said, she signaled for the others to follow her. A single man stayed behind and looked to Rainns. NE Doe inhaled nervously as he stood there, waiting for orders.
