Mara Oxton walked to the Chief Engineer’s office, an eager look on her face. The red haired woman looked around for a second before knocking on the door, “I’m here for my boarding check-in?” Ever since she was a little girl, Mara dreamt of being posted on a ship… And finally that day had arrived!~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}
The Andorian Chief Engineer was sitting at his desk, studying something on his terminal. The office had a few personal mementos - a holographic picture of a few other Andorians, what looked like a cross between a knife and an ice pick, and some PaDDs strewn about. He looked up at the voice of the new arrival. “Cadet Oxton, is it? Have a seat. I am Lieutenant Keval Vras.”
As the cadet started to take a seat, Keval looked back at the engineering. “Professor Baskin recently wrote an article suggesting that a variable warp field would allow us to do away completely with a variable geometry for warp nacelles.”
Keval turned off the terminal. “It is utter garbage, of course. Professor Baskin is still teaching at the Academy. Did you have any classes with him?”
(OOC: It is totally up to you whether your character knows who my character is even talking about, let alone had a class with this professor. Feel free to reply how you want with your character.)

She shook her head a little,
“No sir, though I’m sure I did hear about his way of teaching from a few fellow students… They said he was all for the far-fetched theories that no one else believed in”
Mara looked around then settled her forest eyes on the lieutenant, a glimmer of excitement arose in her, like the steady eruption of a volcano.~ Cadet Mara Oxton {Engineer}
Keval observed Oxton while she answered the question and for a few seconds longer, before suddenly standing up from his chair.
The Andorian started talking as he walked out of his office towards Engineering. “Of course, sometimes real experience is needed then an academic paper.” He hadn’t said anything else to Oxton, but clearly expected the cadet to follow.

Mara sat there, thinking for a second.
“Well, yes sir… Indeed real experiences are imperative to our learning”
She stood up, making a point to stay beside Keval as she walked, her head turned to look at him as her hands were behind her back, one on the other.
“If we do not have the experiences then we might not grow, the experiences we go through in life, whether good or bad build us up into the people we are… Our personal experience defines who we are. Perhaps if my parents had been different people, then I’d be different too, therefore I might not be an Engineer cadet… Or perhaps I’d have never joined the Academy. In the end, we need that experience to grow, to be better people, to strive for greatness”
