“Thank you”, Aili hummed through pursed lips as she accepted her glass from the holographic bartender. She pressed it between her palms, delicately rolling them back and forth. “What time is it?”, she asked, glancing up at the hologram. “Half five. Same as last time you asked, more or less”, he responded in a broad Australian accent. Having invited a plethora of unfamiliar names- the ship’s entire compliment of cadets no less- to socialise, Aili had chosen the pub setting in the hopes of feeling slightly less exposed, especially in the event of a poor turnout. People, even if holographic, milled around ordering drinks and coming and going through the doors to the imagined street beyond. Dim lighting, emanating from antique lanterns mounted on the stone walls and wide pillars, cast thick shadows, ready to be melted into in a mere few steps should a particularly akward exchange encourage rapid retreat. Beginning to raise her glass to her lips, she quickly changed her mind, sharply turning to look over her shoulder to where the doors to the holodeck were shrouded behind the photonic back wall of the room. The time she had invited everyone for was still ten minutes away but as was typical of the cadet, she was already becoming anxious that no one would appear. Cursing her needless anxiety, she took a deep breath, followed by a small sip of her warmed drink.

It seemed Aili’s anxiety was to prove unfounded, at least in part, for the first of her guests had arrived. Said guest was a Caitian, six foot tall and black-furred, in the off-duty attire of trousers, boots, and a Starfleet Academy extracurricular club shirt, specifically the Martial Arts club. A bajoran earring dangled from his right ear, jingling slightly as he looked around for the host of this gathering, unsure where to begin. Oh, he’d been in holodecks before, but always in simulations, never for recreation or socializing.

Cadet Mika headed into the holodeck, pausing briefly at the door. Just yesterday, she’d been here - alone - with Aili. But she had come today to meet the other Cadets, which had been the original plan yesterday.

Mika was short, just 5‘4’‘, and had a slim figure, but she was toned and fit, as a practicer of martial arts herself - Judo. Her off-duty choice in clothes was a pair of athletic shorts, a blank t-shirt and some tennis-shoes.

As she headed further into the holodeck, she gave a friendly wave to Aili, and then headed towards Cadet Satyol, someone she had only briefly met, in a professional capacity. “Hey there!”

As Joseph Rainns made his way down the corridor he grumbled to himself just loud enough to be audible. “Time to be social” he muttered to himself as his pace quickened. Rainns was still in full uniform, as he liked the formality of the clothing and had just gotten off shift. Whatever the opposite of a party animal was, Cadet Rainns was that. He much preferred an intimate setting with a few friends and some wine. When he saw the invite list, he had noticed that damn near most of the crew had been invited. Rainns didn’t have a problem with people, but informal get togethers with large amounts of people socially drained him. But alas, he could not just stay home and read a book as he had in his childhood, the cadet knew he needed to make friends and make connections. To make the situation more uncomfortable, the last time he was on a holodeck for recreation was with his ex girlfriend, whom he had just recently broken up with. The holodeck just served as a nagging reminder of his loneliness, as he had grown to associate the two together. As he approached the door, he took a deep breath, he’d drop by for a few minutes, have a few drinks, and make an escape back to his quarters once he felt he had hit his social quota for the month.

Stepping into the Holodeck, Rainns surveyed the scene. He saw several cadets whom he vaguely recognized and a Caitian, who he assumed was not a hologram, but could not be sure, as he had never seen him outside of the program. Regardless, he quickly spotted the bar and made his way over to it. Approaching the bartender he ordered a drink and sat down at the bar, looking about to see if anyone else would arrive. He noticed a lack of music, and briefly considered creating a jukebox, but he figured whoever had made the program would not appreciate the deviation of the aesthetic. A pool table would also be nice, he thought to himself.
