=/\= Lieutenant Tija here. No one in the bunker seems to be seriously injured. I have been talking to Ressis and Charl Oeuss. They told me that they went a few metres deeper in the fourth shaft and hit something that made a metallic sound. Yet that apparently haven’t been able to find out anything else about what they hit. They also said that some people heard a grinding sound that was followed right away by an explosion. Yet there shouldn’t have been anything down there that could have exploded. Some people thought right away that there might be under attack. Others were more hesitant until the second explosion. Borefar then went into the mine to search for the miners. She hasn’t been seen since. Charl Oeuss said that some of the miners were getting tunnel sickness due to the isolation and started to hear and see things. Things that the sensors didn’t pick up. The only thing the sensors did pick up was some soft of brief blip when the power was turned off and the tunnel collapsed.,=/\= Tija reported in a level, almost detached voice.

~Lt. Tija, CMO

=^= Tavium here. We’ve entered the tunnels and heard a voice asking for help. We plan to separate and locate them. They might have some injured. When we find them, we’ll request for the Challenger to lock on and beam them out. =^=

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS (crosspost)

Garth eyed the probe’s sensor readings from the station next to McMorran as he listened to the reports from the away team. Communications seemed to be coming through fine, thanks to the power of the Challenger and, he assumed, Douglas’ efforts on the surface. At least for now.

The tellarite’s bushy eyebrows narrowed at Tija’s report. Explosions? The miners obviously weren’t under attack. Not currently. Garth keyed the Challenger’s sensors to scan the system for any other ships in the area, just to make sure that the facility had not been visited by any uninvited guests whose escape vessel was lurking around.

(Lt. Garth, CSO)

Thee system was not a quiet one, certainly but for the most part the ships were all easily identifiable as belonging to the sector, or at least there was no real obvious threats roaming around. If the explosion was a deliberate attack it was someone on the surface that either already left or hadn’t yet left.

GM Wombat

=^= Understood Captain. It’s great to hear that they were able to get the stations comm system back up and running.

=^= Right now we are doing some upgrades to the runabout, giving it an extra boost to escape atmo if needed. The Cadets did come up with some rather inventive ideas in case of an emergency escape situation. They had some thoughts on how to try and disperse the storms. =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO (crosspost)

Emmy listened as the responses to her requests for updates came in one after another from the various department heads. She took a moment to digest the information and sort it out before turning to the CSO.

“Lieutenant, will it be possible to get a solid transporter lock through the storms?” she queried. The COS might need a different plan to get any injured out of the tunnels and she wanted to be able to pass along that information as early as possible. She chewed on her lip for a moment and then added, “see if there are any warp signatures indicating a recently departed vessel that could be responsible for the explosion.” Her requests issued, she sat back in her chair and quickly issued updates to all of the teams regarding the status of the various investigations. Finally, she spoke to the XO:

=/\= Dispersing the storm may be more handy than you might think depending on whether we need to evacuate the station. Is there risk to the Challenger? =/\=

  • Davis, CO

Scans showed that, while there was some warp traffic through the system, nothing that would be the scale of a war vessel or anything that high tailed it out of the system either.

GM Wombat

“Being up in orbit no, the Challenger would be perfectly safe. Its the runabout i’m concerned with. We may be able to actually fire those plasma torpedos from up here too. But its going to take some math and atmospheric composition to come up with the right yeld. Too little and its not going to give you the window you need… Too much and the planet can burn to a crisp depending on atmospheric gasses.”
K’sang, Science Cadet

=^= Did you hear that Captain? The risk to the Challenger is minimum. Can’t say the same about the everything else. =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO (crosspost)

Bringing her head out from practically within her console unit, Aili reengaged with her colleagues, her focus having drifted into analysis of the data returned by the probe. Sensing her opportunity to dispense pertinent information, she piped up. “Data from the probe makes it clear that the moon’s shifting magnetic field will likely destroy any unshielded technology sooner rather than later.”

Cadet McMorran - Science

Garth’s head snapped up as he heard K’sang’s idea over the comms. He grumbled something to himself before speaking up. “I’d be wary about implementing that plan, Captain. The risk of incinerating the mining facility and everyone in it isn’t negligible. A good last resort option, I’d say.”

The Chief Science Officer paused to review the readings one more time. “There’s no evidence of uninvited guests interfering with the facility. Whatever or whoever caused the explosions is likely still on the surface.”

Garth began investigating the Captain’s next request: could transporters work through this lull in the storm, given that communications were working currently?

(Lt. Garth, CSO)

Emmy took a deep breath to steady herself against the onslaught of information from various sources, taking a moment to process all of it once the various crew members had passed along the information. She nodded to the CSO to confirm that she had heard him and then returned the communication from the XO:

=/\= I’d like to see a complete simulation of the idea, whether on the holodeck or elsewhere, to ensure the safety of the system. We have some time before it may be critical. Davis out. =/\=

Returning her attention to the CSO, she bit her lip and then enabled communications again:

=/\= Challenger to Tavium. Scans reveal that it is unlikely the culprit has left the system. Be aware and keep communications open between the ship and the other teams. =/\=

Davis, CO

Emmy shifted from foot to foot as she awaited the response from the COS. The uncertainty of the situation that had led to the mining collapse gnawed at her as it seemed like the perpetrator, if there was one, would still be on the colony with her crew members.

Davis, CO

Nijix’s voice came on over the open channel, replying to both the CO and the Cadets under her charge.

=^= Tavium here. We’ll keep that in mind. If anyone sees or hears anything strange, report it immediately. Keep your eyes and senses alert.=^=

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Transporters would work, though site to site is probably not best, transporting from a transporter pad to the transporter pad on the Challenger would have a high likelihood of success given the power restored to the station’s systems.

GM Wombat

Garth spoke up from the science terminal as the readings came in. “I’d urge them to make haste, Captain. The away team should be able to use the facility’s transporter pad to beam back to the ship, thanks to power being restored. But that again depends on the circumstances of the storm remaining as they are now. And assuming that power doesn’t go out again.”

The Chief Science Officer turned to Cadet McMorran at the station next to him. “How much experience do you have with transporter technology? Usually I’d trust the operations officer to handle the transport process, but with the complicated nature of the endeavor, I’d like you to assist him with making adjustments to compensate for the storm’s influence when the time comes.”

(Lt. Garth, CSO)

Cadet McMorran turned to the CSO with keen eyes. While continuing running her scans, she was confident that she was merely scraping the barrel for further useful information from the probe. “I have some practise dealing with intricacies of that nature sir”, the answered in a tone suggesting her confidence and comfort in her current position had grown greatly during her short time on the bridge. “Shall I join them in the transporter room to make preparations?”
