Aili’s first impressions of the councilor were positive. The decor was fairly typical of what she had expected but did seem to convey genuine character, history and interest, rather than a simple, clinically ‘comfortable’ environment. The man himself, after her experience with Lieutenant Garth, seemed perfectly ordinary to her in all but one respect. She took his words as an invitation and stepped through the doorway, before standing not far from said doorway with her hands behind her back: “Cadet Aili McMorran reporting for my boarding check-in, sir”.

She paused to await acknowledgement before interjecting: “Your glasses! I’ve never seen anyone but my dear grandpa… I’m sorry sir”, she recomposed herself, “I just didn’t expect to see ancient-style glasses worn on a starship.”

Korczak smiled warmly and said “I get that a lot.” with a knowing wink. “Please, be seated. And if you would like to have something to drink, the replicator is at your disposal. Please help yourself.” and he tapped a few commands into his desk interface and then came around and took a seat.

“Oh, thank you, I think I will actually”, Aili responded softly. Approaching the machine, she made her request: “Water, chilled, please”. She liked to maintain some sense of mannesr even when the object of her attention lacked the ability to care. She also knew from experience that her throat tended to become parched during personal conversation. Besides, she liked to keep hydrated. Finding herself pulling out one of the deskside chairs, she sat herself down and placed her glass on the edge of the worksurface, before smiling at the counsellor expectantly.

Bump-o :)

Bump-o-bump :)

Korczak came around the desk and took a seat. Unlike any other Counselor, he had no note taking or recording materials anywhere to be seen. He simply sat and said “How was your trip to the ship, Cadet?”

Sitting with her hands resting on her lap, Aili found herself strangely comforted by the seeming straightforwardness of the counsellor’s manner. When he asked his question however, she did find herself reminded of past interviews which had begun with similarly benign and seemingly purposeless questions. Putting the baggage aside, she returned an equally stripped-back response: “It couldn’t have been any easier, sir. I’m just glad to be here and settling in.”

Korczak nodded and said “I am very glad to hear that. Nothing sets things off on a negative note like a bad shuttle ride to a new duty station. And how are you settling in so far? Everything satisfactory?” he asked nonchalantly.

Smiling gently, Aili bobbed her head. “Just fine, thank you. I’ve been made to feel welcome, although I’m yet to put the effort in to socialising”, she chuckled, “I tend to spend a rather long time decoration until my quarters are just right!” Raising a hand from her lap, she slowly raised her glass to her lips as she finished her sentence.

“Well, making one’s space their own is important, even if it is for a short while.” Korczak said with a small smile of his own. “But dont lose out on the chance to meet new people. I know many Cadets who have formed long and meaningful relationships with those they served with on their Cadet cruise.”

“Mmm”, Aili hummed a positive acknowledgement through her glass. “I’m actually planning on inviting the other cadets to a gathering on the holodeck. Jump straight in, as it were!”, she chuckled. “I suppose you’ve encouraged all of them do to the same, rightly so, and we’ll take your advice all at once!” Aili’s head tilted slightly. “If they show up, that is.”

Korczak chuckled and said “I try not to suggest, I simply try to guide. But I will say… I find the idea of a Cadet ‘mixer’ a fine idea. And I’m sure most will be excited to meet their new crew mates.”
