“Not really that unusual. We went a few meters deeper in the fourth shaft. Hit something metallic sounding but nothing came of it,” Ressis reasoned before the boss came hobbling up, favoring a sprained ankle.

Putting a gentle hand on Ressis’ arm she turned to Tija, “I am Charl Oeuss. Sorry for having to hobble up here. Life is quiet here, you know? Not much to talk to so many of the miners get tunnel sickness ya know?” She glanced to Ressis, “When people start hearing and seeing things from the isolation. Nothing was picked up on the sensors except for a brief blip when the power was turned off and the mine collapsed. I am sure we panicked for nothing.”

Seeing that Lobac was a bit calmer, Cadet Schweitzer ran a scan of the bunker to look for any environmental conditions or chemical or biological signatures that would account for the mine collapse, but found nothing. Seeing Lt. Tija smiling in his direction, he smiled back and nodded. However, he could not keep a puzzled look off of his face because he had no scientific explanation for what had happened in the mine.

Tija nodded thoughtfully, but before she could say anything, she heard the Captain’s voice over the com.

=/\= Challenger to Tija. Status report. =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

Tija help up the index finger of her left hand as the call came in and walked a few steps away before tapping her combadge. =/\= Lieutenant Tija here. No one in the bunker seems to be seriously injured. I have been talking to Ressis and Charl Oeuss. They told me that they went a few metres deeper in the fourth shaft and hit something that made a metallic sound. Yet that apparently haven’t been able to find out anything else about what they hit. They also said that some people heard a grinding sound that was followed right away by an explosion. Yet there shouldn’t have been anything down there that could have exploded. Some people thought right away that there might be under attack. Others were more hesitant until the second explosion. Borefar then went into the mine to search for the miners. She hasn’t been seen since. Charl Oeuss said that some of the miners were getting tunnel sickness due to the isolation and started to hear and see things. Things that the sensors didn’t pick up. The only thing the sensors did pick up was some soft of brief blip when the power was turned off and the tunnel collapsed.,=/\= Tija reported in a level, almost detached voice. While she talked she kept her eyes on both Ressis and Charl Oeuss and on Cadet Schweitzer and Lobac.

~Lt. Tija, CMO

Cadet Schweitzer listened as Lt. Tija made her report. He thought about what about the miners reporting auditory and visual hallucinations. Some pathogens could survive underground and cause those symptoms. This could be some sort of infection after all. He saw that Lobac was calm and no longer complaining. He waited and wondered how the Captain would respond to the report and what they would be ordered to do next.

Cadet Albert Schweitzer (Medical)

Once the Captain had filled her in on what was happening on the ship and with the two other teams, Tija turned her attention back towards the Ressis and Charl Ouess. “We have a team in the mine right now and they heard voices in one of the shafts. They are working on getting them out of there.” Looking Ouess straight in the eyes, she continued, “While we wait for further news, I want to have a look at that leg of yours. How did you injure it?” As she spoke, Tija pulled the medical tricorder out of the holster on her hip and flipped it open, while taking the little node into her right hand.

~Lt. Tija, CMO

Cadet Schweitzer saw Lt. Tija move toward Ouess and examine him. As he had nothing to do after treating Lobac and the Captain had given no further orders, he moved in that direction while keeping a respectful distance before asking, “Anything I can help with, Lieutenant?”

Cadet Albert Schweitzer (Medical)

Turning her head briefly towards Schweitzer before looking back at Ressis and Ouess, Tija replied, “Ressis, if it is okay with you I’d like Doctor Schweitzer to check that you’re fine. Even if one doesn’t feel ill or injured it’s always good to regularly have check-up. Even more so after what happened here.” Her voice was level and relatively gentle. Yet something about her probably made it fairly clear that it was less of a question and more of an order; just like her insistance a moment ago to check Ouess’ leg and find out how they had injured it.

~Lt. Tija, CMO

Lobac let out a whine as his “personal” doctor left his side to go be with someone else. “Oh it is hurting again! My leg! It is infected with Denedebian fire worm! It is going to go to my heart! Surely I will die!”

Tija turned her head and looked straight at Lobac, her lips pursed and her expression very stern. “Doctor Schweitzer just treated you. He is a very capable physician. If you had an infection or injury that was even remotely serious, he would have spotted it and told me. You’re are not the only person who got injured and right now we have to focus on helping those whose lives are actually in danger,” she said in quiet, yet rather brusque voice. Without waiting for Lobac’s reply, she turned back towards Ouess.

As for Ouess, her leg was also a mild injury. A blow to the knee or something else to cause it to be dislocated was all it was. It had been crudely set in bandaged causing the hobble. “I am fine,” she insisted pouring herself a cup of the black goo that passed as coffee. “It is dangerous out here, Lieutenant. We don’t have those fancy Star Fleet ships, you know.” She glanced over the rest of the crew, “Anyway if you can get my folks out I’d appreciate it. We aren’t in a place to dig them out ourselves, not with the speed it would take to get to them before their food ran out.”

GM Wombat

“You have dislocated your knee. I would prefer to take care of that now so you have full mobility back,” Tija replied in a slightly gentler voice than when she had spoken to Lobac a moment ago. But it was probably still clear that she wasn’t going to let anyone either completely downplay or exaggerate their injuries. While getting the needed equipment from her shoulder back, she continued, “As for the other miners, we have a team in the mine right now working on getting them out. Our ship is on the standby with another shuttle and also working on ways to beam everyone off the surface of the moon. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to get all your people to safety.”

~Lt. Tija, CMO

The Chief Engineer’s voice came over Tija’s communicator.

=^= This is Lt. Vras. It is possible some sensors may have been tampered with that allowed for a mine explosion to take place. We are still reviewing the circumstances and the current status of the mine sensors. It is possible this may have been a deliberate act. Take all caution while in the mine. =^=
