Cadet Marshall half walked/half jogged up the corridor toward Sickbay. She felt a little strange, as though her previous 25 years belonged to a different life. She took a deep breath and paused in front of the doors, just long enough to straighten her uniform before stepping forward and through the doors. “So what if my family thinks I am crazy,” she thought, “finally I feel like I could belong somewhere.”

OOC: Welcome aboard and welcome back to STF! This is a great first post. Just one tiny thing: don’t forget to sign off ;) and don’t mind my CMO, she is rather … well, let’s say she likes keeping people at a distance, lol

IC:
At the same moment Marshall had walked through the door into sickbay, another person had approached the doors from the other side. The person on the other side was a petite Bajoran woman with numerous freckles covering her face. Her copper hair was tide back in a neat French braid, leaving not only her earring, but also the narrow white scar along the hairline on the right side of her face clearly visible. A surprised, “Oh!” escaped her lips and she blinked a couple of times as she looked at the other woman. But it seemed that she quickly regained her composure again and said, maybe a bit more briskly than intended, “You must be one of the new cadets. Hayley Marshall, am I correct?”

~Lt. Tija, CMO

“Yes Ma’am,” Hayley replied seeming unfazed by the brusqueness. “I am here for my boarding medical and, well, also to report in with the CMO, You would be Dr. Tija?”

OOC: I’m sorry I haven’t been able to reply sooner. Last week turned unexpectedly crazy.

IC:
“I am, yes,” replied Tija with a nod and without missing a beat she continued, “I suggest that we go to my office and talk first and then I’ll take care of your medical evaluation afterwards.” As she spoke, she pointed vaguely in the direction of her office. She then started to lead the way without waiting for Marshall to reply.

It didn’t take long till they arrived at the office and Tija walked inside. The room was small and looked very much like a standard department head office. On the wall to the left hand of the door stood a grey couch, matching armchair and an oval, glass coffee table. The only thing on the coffee table was a moss green candle, that seemed to have been lit a few times. To the right and angled in a way so it face the door, stood a standard desk with two nondescript chairs in front of it and a black swivel chair behind it. On the desk stood a computer and there was a neat stack of PaDD; everything on the left side. The only piece of furniture that didn’t seem to be standard, was a bookshelf behind the desk. It was just over a metre long, not much higher than the desk and made of a dark brown wood with a tinge of dark red in it. From what was visible, it was filled with medical books in English and several books with titles in Bajoran.

“Please, have a seat,” Tija said with a small smile. “Can I offer you something to eat or to drink?”

~Lt. Tija, CMO

Hayley followed Dr. Tija into the office and had a seat in one of the chairs in front of the desk. “Water would be lovely, thank you. I tend to forget about such things on days like today. I have to admit I’m a little overwhelmed.”

After getting a glass of water and a cup of herbal tea and placing them on each side of the desk, Tija sat down on her chair and said with a hint of a smile, “I should tell you that that is not healthy at all, yet it feels a bit hypocritical to tell someone off for something I’ve been guilty of myself. Not to mention that I’m sure you already know how important it is to stay hydrated.” Taking a sip of tea, she looked at the other woman for a moment before asking, “Tell me about yourself. Why did you join Starfleet and why did you chose the medical field?”

~Lt. Tija, CMO

Hayley took a sip of her water before replying, “That’s a bit question. I grew up in a very artistic community and family but I was interested in science and medicine right from the start. Our community Physician, Dr. Rentz, had served in Star Fleet and was now semi-retired and living on Earth. He took me under his wing and encouraged my interests. The stories he told me of serving in space captivated me! My parents didn’t really understand it, but they never discouraged me either. Individuality was respected where I grew up.”

Tija nodded here and there as she listened to Marshall, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips and eyes. “Having that kind of support is wonderful and something to treasure. I, too, was fortunate enough that someone took me under their wing when I was younger and encouraged and fostered my interests and gifts,” she replied. “What areas of medicine are you most interested in and/or is there something already have or want to specialise in?”

~Lt. Tija, CMO

“I have a strong interest in both Emergency and Cardio-Respiratory Medicine,” Hayley replied, “but I specialized in Emergency Medicine first. I figured you can pretty much go anywhere from there if you want to after all.”
