Electra messed with her black hair for a moment before telling the computer to stop the music and heading off to her appointment. She loved music more then most, and listened whenever possible. Thankfully due to her better then most hearing she never had a noise complaint against her, which was always something she worried about.

Opening her door she started walking to the CNS Office, she didn’t mind this part of the introductions. The cadet never was afraid of “shrinks” Now social workers that’s another story though. At times she even considered wanting to work as a councilor, but then there was the issue with having to be outgoing that stopped her. Her thoughts drifted from place to place as she walked. Seeing the correct nameplate ahead the cadet said to herself, “Ok here we go,” and walked to the door to press the buzzer, suddenly feeling a bit congested.

The door to the counselor’s office slid open automatically when Tamar pressed the buzzer, obviously expecting her arrival for her appointment. The room inside was of decent size by dimension, but was filled with an assortment of furniture, art, and lots and lots of plants. In the primary space, a high-backed armchair sat facing a loveseat couch, both adorned with a warm brown cloth fabric and designed for comfort when sitting for extended periods. The loveseat was flanked by two intricate end tables made of dark wood, each of which had an arrangement of little statues, candles, and a tissue box. A hemp rug bridged the space between the two seating options.

There was a desk pushed up against the far wall, but it was almost obscured by an indoor jungle’s worth of potted plants on that side of the room that hung from the ceiling, stood in large vases, or sat on shelves with dozens of other specimens. The plants, in combination with the earth tones of the furniture and the slightly yellowed lighting in the office gave the space a tropical atmosphere. Indeed, the plant life might even make the air feel be a bit more fresh, to those with keen senses.

Among the plants, a tall man with tanned skin and pushed-back brown hair turned to peered through the foliage as the door to his office opened. A small circular symbol sat on his forehead, indicating that he was from Risa. He grinned as he maneuvered through the organic maze. “Cadet Electra! Welcome! I’m counselor Hilo. Please, come in! In fact, come over here,” Hilo said as he motioned toward the jungle, leaving the seating area ignored for now. “I was just in the middle of pruning some of my plants. Would you mind lending a hand for a moment before we begin?”

Hilo stopped in front of a shelf that had three plants sitting in plate-sized pots. One housed a Christmas cactus that was spilling over the edges of its container. Another, a hydrangea that seemed to be at the end of its blooming cycle. And the last, a sage plant that had grown too big for its allotted soil. Hilo looked over his shoulder and offered a pair of clippers to Tamar. The man’s face was friendly and inviting, encouraging her to take her pick of plant to preen.

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

OOC: Welcome, Ophelia! We’re so glad to have you! In this thread, we’ll discuss your character’s personality and backstory, and in your thread with your DH you’ll go over some of the more technical parts of writing on STF. I’m looking forward to learning more about your character. From my understanding, most Bajorans have their first name second and their second name first (if that makes any sense). Is that the case with your character? Is “Tamar” her first name and “Electra” her last name, by our standards? Totally fine if not, just thought I’d clarify!

As the door chirped and opened a wave of earthy air rushed to Electra. She felt her sinuses filling as she adjusted, the scents reminding her of the past. Looking around the new environment she spied the counselor as he introduced himself. Certainly he seemed to be a lively person. “Nice to meet you Counselor Hilo, I hope you don’t mind me saying but I’ve never met a Risian before. I’m always excited to meet new people.” The cadet said, trying to be polite, as she moved towards the offered clippers, “This is a rather large collection of plants, how did you come to get them?” She carefully took the offered clippers and went to the large sage plant trying to stifle a sneeze. Electra never really cared for plants but she did like tea, and sage tea was one of her most liked. Out of complete habit she thought, ‘Though if taken too much or too often it can kill some humanoid species.’ She didn’t know why she always had to tell that to herself but she did, a strange tick.

OOC: Thanks, ok sounds good. First name is Electra so family or last name is Tamar, just like the more standard format. I mentioned it in my short bio. Basically it was to fit in better.

-Cadet Electra Tamar

OOC: Great, thank you for the clarification! Makes complete sense to me! You might want to make a note about that in her character bio so other people know too!

IC: Hilo flashed a warm smile at Electra as he began working on the Christmas cactus next to her. “You’ve never been to Risa? Well that’s a shame! I’m sure you’ll make it there someday, but in the meantime if you have any questions about my culture or homeworld, please feel free to ask. And I’ve collected these plants from a variety of worlds I’ve visited across the quadrant. They’re little mementos from my adventures in Starfleet.”

When Cadet Tamar had finished pruning the sage, Hilo handed her a small tupperware container. “Here, in case you wanted to take those clippings home. You’re more than welcome to them!”

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

The cadet listened, making small adjustments to the sage. She didn’t really know how much trimming it needed, and didn’t want to accidentally kill it. She replied, “Nope, I never had an opportunity to go. All I know is its supposed to be a pretty fun place. ” Looking around for a moment she added, “And its an impressive collection for sure.” Electra looked and noticed Hilo had grabbed a container and she took it as he offered, “Oh thank you, I’ll uh use this for my tea.” She put clippers next to the plant and put the sage clippings in the container.

OOC: So sorry about the delay responding to this post! I’ve been getting settled into a new job, which has proven more time-consuming than I anticipated.

IC: Hilo nodded with a smile as Electra took the container. “Well thank you! And I hope it adds some nice freshness to your beverage.” He motioned toward the seating area and moved to take his seat in the high-backed chair, extending an arm to the loveseat across from it to invite Electra to sit. “My role on the ship is to help guide you through your cadet cruise experience while taking into consideration any personal needs you may have in regards to your emotional, social, or spiritual well-being. In order to do that, it helps me to know a bit about you. Is there anything in particular you’d like to share that might help me get a clear picture of who you are?” His eyes were calm and kind, and his interest in Electra was genuine.

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

OOC: No problem Im sorry as well for my late response I’m still trying to get figure out a good rhythm for posting.

IC: Electra sat down on the nice loveseat, trying to not sink too far into it. She listened to what Hilo said as she wondered, ‘How many times has he had to say this same line?’ When he finished she replied,
“Well uh I’m not sure there is a ton to say… I was born on Bajor, but I grew up on a federation colony planet. As soon as I could I left that place to help do cargo runs. Mhh I always have liked medical stuff, music, tea, history, art, and being in space. ” Pausing a moment to grab a tissue and sneeze, ” Sorry I’ve always had allergies. Um not sure what else to say. Oh I broke someones arm once, I was on a security shift for a warehouse that didn’t have much of value but it was my first night. My colleagues decided it would be a great time to try and give me a scare so one of them hid in a corner until my shift was half done and jumped out. I think he shouted something along the lines of, ‘BOO AUUUHHG!’ the auugh part was because I slammed my flashlight as hard as I could towards him. His humerus had a simple fracture. I felt kinda bad but also I’m not sure what they expected. Oh I’m sorry I ramble sometimes. ” Electra straightened a bit and asked, “Anything specific you need to know?”

Hilo’s face slowly broke into a grin as Electra spoke. “Well,” he said with a short chuckle, “that is quite the story! I hope there were no hard feelings from anyone involved.”

“You said that you were working as part of a security detail,” Hilo said as he settled back in his chair, “yet here you are wearing blue. I’m curious what drew you to medical? Anything in specific?” He rested his cheek against the palm of one of his hands. The man felt a bad that his plants were causing the cadet allergies, but he hoped they weren’t too intense that they would have to move.

(Lt. Cmdr. Hilo, Counselor)

“Oh yes, I’ve always liked things of a medical nature.” The cadet crisscrossed her legs and grabbed a pillow, “The warehouse owner just needed anyone really, and I happened to be there. It was only for a month. ” Electra said and then fiddled the pillow she was holding in her lap. “I’m not sure if anything specifically started my interest in the medical field. I suppose I did have a friend as a child, they developed a blood disease, I was never told what exactly it was but, whatever it was it was beyond the doctors’ ability. I heard they had called for help from a federation ship but it was just too far away.” Before continuing she put one hand up and shrugged,

“Ever since I’ve wanted to study blood, such an interesting thing, its incredibly diverse. Its one of the most interesting parts of biology, at least I think. Not a huge leap of the imagination to go from studying blood to wanting to be a doctor I suppose… One of the local doctors on the colony let me help him, at first it was mostly just carrying things for him. He did house-calls, I would accompany him. Eventually I was doing more then just carrying a bag. Before I knew it I was administering hyposprays and taking care of calls to the doctor. He was a Denobulan, jovial sort of person. After a few more years he left to move back to his family though and I left for cargo hauls.” She paused for a moment to rub at her sinuses. “For a bit I was even interested in being a counselor, but I am not very outgoing. Anything else you need to know?”
