Sam heard his name and headed into the office, The door slide-out behind him. ” Pleasure to meet you lass and Tea will be fine.” His muscular 6‘6 frame carried it’s self not in the way of a Cadet but more of a veteran Starfleet personal. His Scottish accent was thick as he spoke and his brown eyes looked back at her with respect.

Vanessa let out a throaty laugh. “Lass! I love it. One hot chocolate and one tea,” she requested, then carried them by the saucer, placing the tea on the end table for Samuel. “Please, have a seat,” she gestured, then sat on the other leg of the sectional, tucking one leg beneath her as she sipped her hot chocolate.

“Mmm,” she hummed. “That is so good.” She set the cup back on the saucer and looked to Samuel for a few seconds. “You’re legacy Starfleet, captains and even an admiral in your family.” She was quiet for another moment, then took another sip. “That’s a lot of pressure to grow up with. What was it like?”

OOC: Great post, Patrick! I loved the casual descriptions. Keep it up!

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

Occ: Thank you and I’ll do my best.

Sam looked at the Lt. Commander as she asked her question. Took the saucer with the tea and took a sip.
” Thank you and yes I am. It was rough switching between times on earth and starship, though I rather enjoyed it getting to see alot of things and places. As a child besides being around my moms lab I would always sneak away to the bridge and sit in the Captain’s Chair and pretend to run the ship. Then on earth it was visiting my grandfather at Starfleet Hq and playing in his office. It made me wanna join when I got old enough, but like parents they wanted me to do some else with my life, It took them almost right before I chose to enlist to approve.” Sam would take a drink of his tea

Vanessa laughed brightly. “The image of you in the captain’s chair is wonderful.” She paused, considering. “They may have been trying to help you make sure this was something you really wanted to do - Starfleet is not a simple career choice, after all. Or maybe trying to save you from the stresses of the life they’d seen. It’s good they let you make the final decision and supported you in it, though.”

She sipped the hot chocolate. “So what drew you to security?”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

OOC: I’m really enjoying your character!

You don’t need to place actions in asterisks or italics. Just write exactly as if you were writing a novel - 3rd person perspective, in past tense:

Sam took a drink of his tea.

We usually use asterisks/italics to represent internal dialogue, like someone talking to themselves, i.e.:

Wow, he’s tall, she thought to herself.

I see you’re having the same problem remembering signatures I did when I came back. It’s not always the easiest! What worked for me was putting the signature as they very first thing I wrote, and then write the rest of the post. It’s too easy to finish writing the post and just hit Submit.

I can’t wait to see where we go from here!

Sam looked at the Lt. Commander in agreement about her feed back. ” I agree with your statement mam. That’s what they wanted to do was to see if it’s what I wantedtodowithmy life, and I figured that Security was the most logical choice, Because of my size for 1 and second I couldn’t get past the engineering or medical parts keep falling asleep.” Sam replied

Sam finished his tea and sat the saucer down.

Sam would again look at the Lt . Commander ” Growing up though it was difficult to figure out what I wanted to do. Because on one hand if I didn’t go to college or join Starfleet, it was to the ship yards for me, and not by my choice. “

Vanessa chuckled. “Engineering was never my strong suit either,” she admitted. “Barely scraped by those required courses.” She pondered the phrasing of her next question, swirling the chocolate in her cup.

“What do you mean it wouldn’t be your choice, and why the shipyards? There are plenty of jobs available in the federation that don’t necessarily require higher educations.” She was puzzled by his phrasing of that statement, and worried there was something underlying it she would not like.

Lt. Commander Lofton - CNS

” i had uncles that worked in the ship yards and wanted me to work with them and they weren’t really the take no for an awnser type. Yeah there are other Federation jobs that don’t require higher education. But my goals were and determination and dreams is what got me were I am now.” Sam replied to the question as he shifted to sit more comfortably on the couch.
