Shortly after all of the paperwork was complete from the surprise mystery on board the Challenger, a notification came through to the entire crew:

=/\= Davis to All Hands. Report to Nine Forward at 1700 hours. =/\=

Most of the crew would receive a notification that they had been freed from any scheduled duty shift during the time, with a minimal cast of characters assigned to cover the various functions of the ship.

At the appointed hour, Emmy stood in the middle of the lounge and surveyed it with a critical eye. This was the third of these celebrations that she had run and she felt as though her precise instructions for the organization of the room had been perfected at this point. With a regular event like this, she wanted to be sure that it had been optimized to run as smoothly as possible. A small table with finger foods from various cuisines adorned one wall, with a sparkling bowl of (non-alcoholic) punch as the center piece. She selected a cup from beside the punch bowl and carefully ladled exactly one ladle into it. Replacing the ladle next to the bowl, her eyebrows furrowed at the drip of liquid that fell from it. Without a handy towel to wipe it up, she indicated the issue to a nearby crewmember and then went to take her place beside the door of the lounge to welcome the staff and cadets as they entered the event.

Davis, CO

OOC: Ahh, if I’d have known you were planning this, I wouldn’t have bothered making my suggestion. xD

Kyle Anders strode into Nine Forward with a sense of pride. He had not long taken up the reigns as Chief of Security from Lieutenant Joseph Rainns, but he already felt as if he was making a lasting impression on the crew of the Challenger. He gave a long whistle as he entered the lounge, “Well ma’am, if I didn’t know better, I’d have called an intruder alert to see who managed to put these decorations up so quickly.” He winked lightheartedly as a crewman passed him a small glass of syntheholic champagne from a long serving tray.

Riley stood at the doorway to the crew lounge and tugged on his shirt, then exhaled slowly. He lifted his right hand and fingered the shiny new pip on his collar. He had done it; he was actually a Starfleet officer now. He resisted the urge to touch the souvenir medallion in his pocket; he could feel its weight, and that was good enough. He smiled, wondering what 8-year old Matthew would think of this moment.

He stepped forward, the doors opening before him. A few officers were already present, and he could see Kyle near the captain. He self-consciously tugged on his uniform top again before entering the room, then shook his head, laughed, and relaxed. He’d done the hard part already.

“Congratulations, Lieutenant,” he grinned at Kyle, extending his hand and clapping his fellow former cadet on the shoulder. He faced Captain Davis. “Good evening, Captain,” he greeted, bowing his head slightly. “Thank you for the party.” He gestured about. “Some of us weren’t sure we’d get to really say farewell to each other.”

He glanced at the table of foods and the bowl of punch, trying to decide what looked appetizing today.

Kyle extended his hand to accept the shake, but then laughed and decided to extend into a hug, “Same to you lad, the Challenger won’t be the same without you.”

Riley laughed, then stepped to the table to pour himself a cup of the punch. “I’m sure you’ll be fine,” he said, turning back. “Just don’t flirt with the cadets,” he smirked. “That’s verboten now.” He lifted his glass in a cheeky toast before sipping it.

“I am going to miss her,” he admitted, looking around the lounge before settling his view out the window. She was definitely my favorite, he mentally added. “And the crew as well, of course,” he laughed again.

Sapeth made his way into Nine Forward, wearing a freshly pressed uniform. Looking around he made his way over to the refreshments table. He never quite understood the human need for food at almost every occasion. While he did enjoy sampling different cuisines from the different races he had met over his time in Starfleet, the timing for some of these meals still confused him.

Moving on from the table, he stood to the side, waiting for the ceremony to begin. While he did still have work to do, he had learned that these sorts of events one was expected to attend. That and as one of his cadets was graduating, it would be poor form for him not to be in attendance.
