“Mgleter,” came the unusual reply. Whatever the word was supposed to be, the computer clearly interpreted it as permission to enter, and the doors opened to the XO’s quarters.

The XO’s quarters had a case open up in the middle of room by the entrance, with various devices and some type of full-suit clothing piled nearby. As for the XO himself, his sleeves were rolled up, and as the XO turned around, Kyle would see that his eyes were covered with some sort of goggles and a round device was sticking out of his mouth with tubes connected to another device on the ground.

“Grbler mntk,” Eric said, holding up his left finger while his right hand removed device from his mouth.

“There we go,” Eric said, as he removed the goggles from his face. “Sorry about that, Lieutenant. My sister was asking me to go through some of our parents’ belongings that I’ve held on to, and found some of their old diving equipment. Couldn’t resist trying on one of these old diving regulators out again…”

“Anyway, congratulations on the promotion, Lieutenant. What can I do for you?”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Kyle chuckled, “No problem Commander, just thought I’d check in, it’s been quite a week.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

“Well, being accused of murder is meant to only be a rare occurence for XOs,” Eric explained. “Starfleet frowns a bit if it happens too often.”

He had a grin on his face as he said it, but certainly it was a trying experience for the XO, and it might have shown. He took another curious look at the old diving equipment in his hand, before returning it to the crate in the room. “And how are you finding the new role?”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

Kyle smiled, “So I’ve heard. I must admit, it felt strange at first to be giving the orders rather than receiving them, but I feel like I’m slowly getting used to it. Need a hand with the diving gear?” Kyle had a cheeky tone in his voice.

“Thanks,” Eric said, “but I have this. I’ll still need to find the items my sister wanted me to find… and it might not even be in this storage crate.”

Eric stood up from the crate, rolling down his sleeves as he faced Anders. “As for giving orders.. even when you’re not sure yourself, the trick is to still to project confidence to the rest of your officers. You’ll want their feedback and advice, but when it is time to make a decision you need them to trust in your orders so that they in turn can carry out what needs to be done.”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

“I’ll keep that in mind sir,” Kyle said gratefully, “Were any more storage crates meant to be delivered to your quarters?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
