Kyle spotted his Captain making for the door and jogged over to catch her, he decided to look over the fact that he had apparently been missed off the list of congratulations, She’s a busy lass, he thought to himself, Not much time to congratulate everyone. “Captain,” he said in the best convincing voice he could, “Aren’t you staying for the party? It would be a shame for you not to bask in all of the hard work it took to put this together?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

Emmy paused mid-stride and carefully returned her foot to the ground before turning to face the COS. She didn’t even attempt to plaster a pleasant smile on her features, although they were remarkably neutral more than anything else. “I suppose I could stay for a brief time. Congratulations on your promotion to Chief of Security, Lieutenant,” she remarked, her voice gaining almost the slightest hint of warmth toward the end. She did not stay to chat with the COS, however, striding toward the food table as quickly as she had been striding out the door. It seemed to make the most sense to have a quick meal if her presence was expected at the celebration.

Vanessa raised her glass to the captain’s greeting, looking about the room as people looked her way in acknowledgement, and sipped the punch, watching the captain’s attempt to leave and the COS’s attempt to get her to stay. She gave a half smile and shook her head at his eagerness.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been aboard a starship,” she said to Lieutenant Sapeth as she chose a finger sandwich from the buffet; something that wouldn’t make her hands messy. “Bases are different, larger, and usually don’t have as many intricate relationships to weave amongst. This will be interesting.”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

“How so Commander? I’d assume that with a starbase that there would be more relationships to navigate, as there would be more crew members on board. Not to mention adding the complication of ships constantly arriving and leaving.

“With the smaller crew count of a starship, it would limit the number of inter personnel relations that could effect people.”

Sapeth looked at the sandwich that Lofton had picked up. “How, is it Commander?” He asked gesturing to the sandwich.

Vanessa smiled, nodding as he spoke. “I’ve found that while there are more people, they are spread out more, and tend to interact less. There’s more opportunity to return home from a fixed location than there is from a roving starship, and the crews arriving and leaving provide momentary interactions rather than lasting ones.” She gestured throughout with the hand not holding the sandwich, adding emphasis to more people, arriving and leaving. She took a bite of the sandwich.

She swallowed and continued. “It’s the - generally - longer-term assignments that make ship-board relationships different, in my experience anyway. It’s easier to forge lasting relationships - and grudges - when you spend a lot of time in a confined space with someone.”

She grinned as he asked about the sandwich. “It’s actually quite good. Egg salad. I think I saw a Bajoran argendi sandwich, too, but I’m partial to egg salad.” She popped the last corner into her mouth and finished it off, looking around the buffet again.

“Do they have any Vulcan fare?” she asked Sapeth. She had never tried any of the desert world’s native dishes.

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

Kyle was sipping at an Andorian cocktail at one end of the table. Keeping a keen eye on the party around him, You’re Chief now Kyle lad, he thought to himself, Can’t be seen to slack off.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

Emmy mostly silently joined the group at the buffet table, quietly listening in on their conversation as she surveyed the options herself.

Davis, CO

Eric came over to the buffet table, and saw the Captain listening. He smiled to himself, having picked up quite a bit on his CO’s personality, and knowing how to fill the gap, so to speak, as her XO. That being said, even a short conversation with Davis might be a good idea…

“Captain,” Eric said in greeting, as picked up a small appetizer from the table. “It’s a good to see a former cadet take on new responsibilities in Starfleet. A sense that we didn’t mess up too badly in training him…”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

“I do see what appears to be see some Gespar. But from my experience, most replicated versions are not quite the same. It looses the freshness that is key to the fruit,” Sapeth said as he eyed some of the other dishes. It was one thing about humans, they sometimes liked to hide certain animal based products within their food items. It was simpler at times like this to just avoid the food options, instead of trying to figure out out what would be appropriate to consume or not.

“Captain, Commander,” Sapeth said inclining his head towards them. “Commander, I’m glad to see that you survived the last predicament mostly unscathed.”

Lt Sapeth - CE
