Vanessa’s brows furrowed and her eyes glistened as she listened to his response. “Well,” she eventually replied. “I’m glad you’re away from that… situation.” Her blood boiled at the thought of what was effectively indentured servitude, though he seemed unfazed, and she took her cue from him. “And I’m glad you’ve followed your dreams,” she continued, her voice strengthening. She smiled widely, hoping it would help hold back some of the emotional turmoil from moments before. “Not everyone in life can say they’ve done that. It’s a true tribute to your perseverance.”

She shifted to lean her side against the back of the sofa, tucking both legs beneath her. “So tell me a little about your time at the Academy,” she continued. “Play any sports, join any of the extracurricular clubs?”

Sam shifts in his seat and looks at the ships Counselor kinda shocked by the question but awnsers it ” My time so far has been alright didn’t really know there were clubs or sports at the academy. Outside of the academy though was quiet interested in Baseball actually.

Vanessa laughed at the cadet’s expression. “There are lots of clubs and sports at the Academy. I joined the women’s Judo team, for instance, but there were other sports available - though I’m not sure about baseball,” she added. “That one has mostly died out, but there’s been a resurgence of interest lately, from what I hear. You can always get a game going on the holodeck!”

She lifted her cup and sipped again. “I spoke with another cadet recently who mentioned they like to play cricket, and had some interest in baseball, so that might be a good way to socialize, too.” She placed the cup back on the saucer and stretched slightly, repositioning herself.

“You’re going to be aboard ship for a while, getting hands-on experience in actually being an officer.” She leaned against the sofa, left elbow on the back and grasped her hands together. “What are some things you hope to improve on while aboard the Challenger?”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

Sam looked at the lt. Commander carefully before awnsering her question. ” My leadership qualities and people skills would be 2 things to improve on mam possibly advancing my combat skills more as well.”

Vanessa smiled then took a smooth sip of her chocolate . “Those are good qualities,” she observed, setting the cup back on the saucer. “Especially for a security officer. Make sure to let Lieutenant Anders know, and I’m sure he can schedule some hand-to-hand or phaser range sessions for you.”

She leaned forward, hands on her knees. “Well, what questions do you have for me,” she asked, same bright smile still on her face. “And don’t worry,” she laughed, “if you don’t have any there’s nothing wrong, you’re free to go, but always feel free to return if you need anything.”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

Sam stood up from the couch ” I will be sure to let either of you know for phaser or combat training mam and no questions at this time mam. I will be sure to return if I need anything mam thank you for your time.” Heads to the door and waits for it to open. As the door opened Sam exited the office and headed for his quarters.
