OOC: Hii! Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to write with me!

T’Saie raised her eyebrow before giving a small bow of the head, a gesture of respect for knowing Vulcan, she was impressed. “Thank you, Commander. The sentiment is mutual.” she said before entering the overtly colourful, blue office. Moving towards the couch she answered the offer of a beverage, “Please and thank you, may I have a cup of Plomeek tea.” she requested, before taking a seat on the sofa.

Vanessa laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. “I believe Lieutenant Sapeth cocked that same eyebrow the first time I spoke Vulcan to him,” she said as she approached the replicator. “One Plomeek tea and one hot chocolate,” she ordered, then lifted the two cups once the whine of the machine wound down.

“I studied it as my foreign language credit at the Academy,” she explained, handing over the tea and taking a seat on the sofa herself. “I try to practice it as much as I can. I still sometimes get my verb conjugations incorrect,” she admitted, then sipped her hot chocolate and hummed, closing her eyes briefly.

“So, we’ve been seeing more Vulcan doctors join the Expeditionary Group lately, and fewer in Starfleet,” she said, leaning back and crossing her legs, mug cradled in her hands on her lap. “What made you decide to join us here?”

Vanessa studied the young cadet before her. She knew that questions about emotions or emotional responses would not be of real use, but that didn’t mean she would not be able to glean some deeper reasoning from her answers. A large portion of therapy, after all, was about delving behind emotional responses to the reason for them.

T’Saie managed to muster a friendly facial expression which she held as the counsellor proceeded to make conversation, her Vulcan language skills had made a good impression.

Tea in hand she responded, “The Expeditionary Group was my initial choice, particularly as I was encouraged to pursue a career with them and to attend the Vulcan Science Academy,” she took a sip of tea, “However, I believe that my skills would be of more use with Starfleet as I understand they have a more.. overarching influence throughout the galaxy and I would have further opportunities to complete my work..” She paused for a second almost as if she was hesitating, “it would have been a safer choice to stay with the Expeditionary Group however I believe that my choice has logic.”

She turned her eyes sharply back to the Commander, “Your enunciation was commendable I must add,” referring to her Vulcan sentence from earlier.

She remained politely seated, affording a small nod to indicate she had finished speaking. It was clear she did not particularly enjoy discussing herself however she recognised this was an important part of her integration into the crew of Challenger.

Vanessa nodded at the compliment. “Thank you. I’ve been told my ‘accent is expected’, though,” she added with a laugh. “And I agree, that would have been the safer route, being familiar and being what people expected of you. You’ve chosen the - relatively - more difficult path, but that means you’ve also opened yourself up for personal growth, and that’s commendable.”

She took another sip of the chocolate, swinging her foot a time or two before she continued. “You mentioned completing your work. What are you working on?”

T’Saie raised her eyebrow as she received praise, something she had little experience of. Cup in hand she responded with a tiny glimpse of suppressed pride, “Before I joined Starfleet I attended the Vulcan Science Academy for a short time where I began my studies in medicine, it was here where I began my research on ‘Neurological Micropathology,’ that is studying microscopic diseases within the nervous system. I am aiming to extend this research into xenobiological practice however since joining Starfleet Academy I haven’t had much time to work on this.” she took another sip of tea before continuing, “I’m aware this isn’t overly interesting however it is my opinion that it is an important consideration during the process of understanding and helping both new and unknown lifeforms.”

She sat back slightly, “This is what I meant when I said Starfleet could have the potential to offer further opportunities to complete my work.” she said, tilting her head slightly as if to question whether Vanessa understood her logic.
