T’Saie raised her eyebrow as she received praise, something she had little experience of. Cup in hand she responded with a tiny glimpse of suppressed pride, “Before I joined Starfleet I attended the Vulcan Science Academy for a short time where I began my studies in medicine, it was here where I began my research on ‘Neurological Micropathology,’ that is studying microscopic diseases within the nervous system. I am aiming to extend this research into xenobiological practice however since joining Starfleet Academy I haven’t had much time to work on this.” she took another sip of tea before continuing, “I’m aware this isn’t overly interesting however it is my opinion that it is an important consideration during the process of understanding and helping both new and unknown lifeforms.”

She sat back slightly, “This is what I meant when I said Starfleet could have the potential to offer further opportunities to complete my work.” she said, tilting her head slightly as if to question whether Vanessa understood her logic.

Vanessa’s eyes widened and she pressed her lips together. “Impressive! I hope you’re able to bring that to fruition. It sounds remarkable, and something to be proud of. Certainly something your CMO should be aware of, as she may be able to help assign you a team for your research while you are aboard the Challenger.”

She shifted, uncrossing her legs, and put the cup down on the side table. “Have you had much experience working in teams?” she asked. “What role do you tend to gravitate towards?”

T’Saie was appeased that the Commander understood her logic, nodding along and perhaps raising an eyebrow at the possibility of continuing research on Challenger, not something she was expecting until she moved past the academy. Of course more questions were thrown her way, she re-positioned herself on the large sofa, still cradling the tea in her hands. “Of course, though I tend to be more efficient at working alone as opposed to as a team, as expected. Though I do have experience working within teams.” she paused to think for a second, “it can be challenging working with non-Vulcans, particularly as we often don’t share the same philosophy however since attending the academy it has become more straightforward.”

Vanessa smiled as T’Saie spoke. She certainly seemed to understand her own limitations as well. “That’s one of the best parts of working in teams,” she said, “learning from each other.” She shifted and placed her elbow on the back of the sofa, leaning her cheek against her fist. “Other, less logic-based species, such as Humans or Andorians, can learn a lot from your logical approaches; and maybe you can learn from some less-rigid approaches, as well. Learning to trust your instincts, or hunches, can be an important path to command.”

She waved her free hand, flashing that bright smile again. “But enough about work! Tell me more about T’Saie. What do you like to do in your off time?”
