Main Sickbay - Reporting for Duty (Cadet Casey)

Tiernan prided himself on being punctual. He rarely managed when it came to classes (You’re two minutes late, Mr. Casey) or dates (I’ve been waiting twenty minutes, Tiernan!), but he prided himself anyway on the rare occasion that it did happen. He made sure that today was one of those rare occasions. A chronic snoozer, he’d set four alarms each at fifteen minute intervals an hour before he planned to “really get up”. He reasoned that the first two alarms would be enough to rouse him from deep sleep, and the final two would be just irritating enough to force him out of bed. It was a good plan, he decided. A great one, even, one that had saved him many times before exams.

…So, naturally, he woke thirty minutes before his first alarm. He hadn’t needed a plan at all; pre-mission jitters had done just the trick. Tiernan lay in bed, fighting his whirring brain and cursing his bodyclock, but it was little use. He groaned as he reached for his glasses. Better to be absurdly early than absurdly late.

The sickbay was nearly empty when Tiernan arrived. Although ships never truly slept, it seemed most of the medical crew had yet to arrive, a realization that both soothed Tiernan and stressed him out more. Was he too early? Perhaps he should have taken his extra time to grab a cup of coffee… He was half considering the cons of turning around and doing just that when he caught a flash of official CMO blue in his peripheral. Tiernan strode over.

“Lieutenant Walsh?” He stood to attention, straight and alert as a tin soldier. He looked impeccably neat save a cowlick which refused to lay down no matter how much gelling it suffered. The urge to reach up and smooth the stubborn curl was almost unbearable. Instead, he smiled and linked his hands tighter behind his back. “Cadet Casey, reporting.”

OOC (Out of Character): What a wonderful first post, Sara! Welcome aboard the Challenger!
