After pondering for a moment, she added, “Lieutenant McMorran, do you have any further scan results that might inform us what’s going on? Any evidence of masked life signs or remote piloting?”

Davis, CO

Even as Davis spoke, the response to her questioning began in the form of finger-tap induced beeping of the science console. “Running analytics”, the CSO added to the monotone backing-track.

Eric followed how the other ship was moving, triggering his pilot instincts. And his old science training..

“Captain, what if we have this all wrong?,” Eric said. “I’m still not convinced this is a race or a challenge… we’re looking at this too much through the lens of a human observer.”

“The lack of life signs, the lack of response to our hails, the way it is copying our movements, and the colourful displays. What if it is an artificial lifeform? Which would mean it thinks Challenger is…” Eric trailed off to see what the reaction would be to his suggestion.

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

“A sentient ship,” Kyle thought aloud, “It’s not within the realms of impossibility Commander.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

The scans came back fairly quickly to McMorran’s station: No hidden life signs or signals that would be consistent with remote operation. However a detailed analysis of the circuitry of the other ship showed that it’s relays were firing in patters similar to a nervous system. Perhaps the Commander wasn’t too far wrong on his assessment.

=^= Sapeth to the bridge. Repairs are underway. Current estimate we will have have the secondary shield arrays back online in about 15-20 minutes, and full shields restored in approximately one hour. Warp drive will be available in approximately 2 hours. However, we also took damage to the graviton field generators and the structural integrity field generators on decks 12 and 14. Right now we are looking at approximately 12 hours before those systems are functional again. =^=

Kyle clicked his fingers as if coming to the end of a long thought, and turned to the XO, “Commander, it might be worth while getting a telepath up here, to see if they have any luck getting anything from our showboating friend over there.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: I’m going to assume here that Emmy has the results of the science scans so that we can push things along a bit. Typically, you want to give players involved in the sim the opportunity to provide that information IC, but sometimes we take little shortcuts on Academy sims because they are limited duration and we want to try to get everyone involved. :)

IC:

Emmy hadn’t had much of a chance to react to her XO’s suggestion, which was likely fortunate since her reaction was going to be akin to disbelief. She had already begun to search her memory to see if she’d ever heard of anything quite like this. She realized this meant she had tuned out slightly and she paused for a moment to try to catch back up on the conversation she had heard on the Bridge.

“Lieutenant McMorran, coordinate with Lieutenant Walsh to start cataloguing all of the information you can come up with regarding this ship. Given the similarity to nerve impulses, her anatomical education may come in handy as you start trying to determine what exactly this… being… is.”

Her brown eyes fell on the Chief of Security next as she considered his suggestion. While telepaths were increasingly common in Starfleet, she did not like to assume that it was a talent that should be depended on and used in such a context. “I will keep your suggestion in mind,” she responded, dryly, not realizing the inadvertent humor that she had added to her response. “Let’s see if we can communicate with them. I believe that one of our engineering cadets is a Betazoid, so perhaps liaising with him to determine if we can vent warp plasma would be ideal.”

With that, she enabled the communication systems to respond to Sapeth personally:

=/\= Thank you for the update, Lieutenant. Please send Cadet Stadi to the Bridge. We require a liaison with engineering to ensure that we can safely attempt to communicate with venting warp plasma and his telepathy may come in handy. =/\=

Finally, she turned to the XO (and CNS if she’s still on the bridge?), “thoughts about an away team to get closer to the ship, Commander?” she enquired.

Davis, CO

Vanessa pursed her lips and arched an eyebrow at the commander’s suggestion. “That… could made sense,” she muttered. Then her eyes widened.

“Oh. Oh no. That looks like a mating dance.” She turned back to the captain. “Like a peacock displaying its feathers, or the bird of paradise.” She struggled not to grin.

She considered the captain’s away team suggestion. “Will there be anything we can react with onboard? Terminals? Voice communication? Is there even breathable atmosphere aboard?”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

“Hold that thought Commander,” Anders began before turning to one of the security officers standing near his console, “Mr Zavi, scan the ship, see if you can identify any form of breathable atmosphere over there.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

“Right you are ma’am”, came the CSO’s response. A quick pivot and pace later she was instructing the turbolift. “Sickbay.”
