OOC: Quick note, I’ve made a quick switch from medicine to nursing! ^-^

T’Saie listened to the counsellor as she responded, to her surprise, with a logical answer. She had thought Starfleet counsellors incompetent however she was most impressed by Vanessa. The next question that came her way was a curious yet expected one, “I handle stress well, my time at the Vulcan Science Academy was more than apt at preparing you for stressful environments.” she squinted slightly as if thinking, “Training with Starfleet can sometimes help condition you for stressful situations.. in my experience.” she proclaimed, wondering if that was enough to satisfy the question.

The counselor smiled and shook her head. “I’m glad to hear that. But,” she said, “it does not answer my question. How do you react when stressed? Do you freeze up? Do you become less decisive, find it harder to find the logical route to a conclusion? Do you become more talkative, more energetic, your body burning off stress-inducing chemicals?”

I’m not letting you off the hook for that one, she thought.

T’Saie narrowed her eyes slightly, unsurprised that the question circled back, aware that an answer was needed to be given she spoke after a small moment of hesitation, “I find that I talk less..” yet again picking up the tea from the table to take a sip. This conversation had become rather personal, she knew exactly what she does in stressful situations, she just wasn’t prepared to say it; it takes longer for her to make decisions.

She raised an eyebrow at the counsellor, hoping to show that she was willing to answer the question, just not in great detail.

Vanessa got the impression that still wasn’t quite the whole answer, but wasn’t willing to push in their first meeting. “I will accept that, for now,” she answered with a soft smile.

“My job as counselor,” she continued, “is to help the crew cope with the realities of space, of dealing with hundreds of different civilizations, with the stress of what serving the Federation can require of us.” She paused, cocking her head slightly. “But I can only do that when the crew is willing to be open with me. I hope that if you need help, you’ll come to me.”

She uncrossed her legs and lightly slapped her thighs. “Well, we are, I believe, just about wrapped up here. Now, what questions do you have for me?”

T’Saie appreciated that the counsellor didn’t try and pry further. She placed the tea back onto the table, “I appreciate your discretion and competency during this meeting.” she said, allowing a nod of respect. “I must say, this meeting was a pleasant surprise” she stated, referring back to her previous encounters with Starfleet counsellors.

“I have no further questions however I am sure we will be meeting again.” her facial expression changed ever-so slightly as if she was smirking. “I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me” she said, again another attempt at ‘bedside manners.’
