Avery stood in the hall quietly, his right hand flexing out of habit. The scars were almost gone now, and by all medical wisdom, there should not be any lingering pain from his injuries years ago. When Avery was stressed though, he could swear that the broken bones and scars ached. Shaking his head slightly, he forced his mind to focus on the matter at hand. Today was his first day on a starship. Well, that was not entirely accurate. He had been on starships before, from small little shuttles to some of the larger civilian freighters, but never a Starfleet vessel. Never as part of the crew.

Reaching up, he ran his fingers idly along the blue lining of his uniform, the smile that was constantly appearing on his face returning. He had done it, despite everything. He was still a cadet, but today, he was going to start being able to prove that he had what it took to be a Starfleet officer. He snapped to attention when he was eventually called to enter the room his superior and fellow medical cadets was in. Raising his chin slightly, Avery stood to attention, doing his best to hide the overwhelming feelings of excitement and terror.

“Cadet Avery McAllister reporting for duty.”

Out of Character (OOC): Wow! You guys are setting the bar high for future cadets. Amazing first post and welcome aboard the Challenger!

  • Sarah, CO

“Welcome to the Challenger Cadet,” Sera greeted with a smile, “I’m Doctor Seraphina Walsh, your department head. Consider yourself reported in, if you’re ready, we can complete your boarding physical as well.”

Avery nodded his head briefly, only momentarily breaking eye contact with the bulkhead directly ahead. He knew that the physical was standard procedure when reporting for duty at any station, and he had prepared himself for it. At least, so he had thought. A brief chill ran through his body as his department head spoke the words, and he only hoped they could get it over with quickly.

“Have a seat on the bio bed of your choice, I’ll grab a tricorder and give you a quick scan,” Sera smiled, sensing the unease in the cadet before her, but she naturally assumed it was simply nerves at being put into a new situation, “If you have any questions about the department, you can ask them while I scan you.”
