Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders sat at the desk in his office, a piping hot Raktajino wafting warm smells into the room. Anders was reading one of his new cadet’s personnel files. Henry Rodier, he thought, Hell of a service record, let’s see what he’s made of. He permitted the young cadet entry and smiled after he made his introductions.
“Pleasure to meet you Cadet, at ease before you injure yourself. I’m Lieutenant Anders, I’ll be the one you report to for the length of your stint on the Challenger.” The security chief extended his hand with a welcoming grin on his face.

OOC: Thank you! I’ve never really done proper RP, but I’ve done a little dialogue writing before, so hopefully it’s not too different. I’ll do the proper sign-off from now on. Appreciate the explanation!

IC:

Henry eased up, loosening his back slightly, but maintaining something close to the posture he was taught. “A pleasure to meet you as well, sir” he said, reaching out to firmly shake the Lieutenant’s hand. The grin on his superior’s face gave the Cadet what he hoped was some insight into his personality, and he returned a (albeit much slighter) smile.

OOC: You’re more than welcome! (I’ll let you off for that post though ;) )

IC:
Kyle could see that his new cadet was nervous, Reminds me of old times, he thought to himself. He released the young man’s hand and gestured to the chair on the other side of his office, “So, better get the difficult but necessary question out of the way first. Why Starfleet and, more importantly, why the Security division?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

The Cadet took a seat, taking in the warm atmosphere of the office and its occupant. “Well, sir, I suppose I’ve always had an eye on Starfleet. It’s the organized embodiment of many of my personal values; teamwork, curiosity, and prepared neutrality, to name a few.” Henry paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. These were the two questions he had prepared for the most, not rehearsing his responses, but making sure he had an outline of what to say.

“As for the Security division, when I started basic training and research into what Starfleet Officers really get up to, I realized that I’m just not suited for the other divisions. That’s not to say that they’re somehow lesser than this one, but Security just seemed like far and away the best fit for me. If you’ll excuse the personal details, I feel that I have a mind which works well with timing and quick decisions, both of which are cornerstones of a Security Officer.” Henry looked down slightly following his responses, hoping he wasn’t too verbose.

Cadet Henry Rodier - Security

Kyle grinned as he made a few notes on his PADD, “You’re confident, I like that in a Security Officer. So, who have been your main inspirations? The people that made you want to join the Fleet in the first place?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: I’m honestly unfamiliar with a lot of “well-known” ST characters, my catalogue of watched shows/movies is limited to Star Trek (2009) - Present. So, apologies if this isn’t a great response.

IC:
A genuine smile and notes Henry thought. That’s a good sign. Keep up the honesty, regulate the confidence. “You probably hear this quite a bit, but Admiral Picard was one of my inspiring voices. His ability to reconcile duty and accountability with curiosity and his own personal values was remarkable, and something I hope to emulate. To some degree, at least.”

A hesitation, and accompanying glance to the side from the Cadet showed his first obvious signs of tentativeness. “My father also dreamed of joining Starfleet in his youth, he was one of those who actually gazed up at the stars at night, wishing he were out there. He ended up grounded for medical reasons, but I suppose that look of wonder he still manages to maintain drove me, too.”

OOC: Don’t feel like you have to make reference to specific characters. You’ll find that our characters only ever talk about canon Trek characters in passing rather than say, writing an actual encounter with one of them. One more thing before I let Kyle back out of his box, you will notice a lot of the text you have just written has been “snipped”. This is just something we do to make posts easier to read for those catching up. Just delete any overflow text and replace it with the following: <snip>

IC:

He’s so like me, Kyle thought to himself, I remember my interview as if it were yesterday. Anders made a couple more notes on his PADD before rising and moving over to the replicator, “Little beverage break I think, can I get you anything?”
