Following the meeting with his DH, Cadet Rodier made his way to the ship’s counselor, asking another crew member for directions on the way. His deep respect for the formalities of Starfleet meant that he was almost excited for the coming counselor and medical evaluations, but at the same time, he was a bit anxious to get into the real meat of what his job on the Challenger would entail. Despite this, he knew that the best thing, both for him and for what would be his crew, was to be completely candid; and so, with this in mind, Henry arrived at the counselor’s office, rung the doorbell, and waited.

“Come in!” sounded through the door panel, and the door hissed open, revealing a large sitting area, mostly occupied by an L-shaped sectional sofa upholstered in light blue. The carpeting was a softer shade of blue, offset by a darker blue on the wall behind the sofa. Directly over the couch was a painting of a couple dancing barefoot on a wet beach - the man in a tuxedo, the woman in a red evening gown - while a butler and a maid stood nearby with umbrellas, clutching their headgear against what appeared to be a blustery day. To one side was a small desk, currently unoccupied.

“Cadet Henry, welcome!” called a female voice from beside the sofa, where Lieutenant Commander Vanessa Lofton stood, watering a white daisy in a red vase, the same shade as the dress in the painting. “I’m Counselor Lofton. Was just finishing up with this,” she said, tilting the can back to slow and then stop the flow of water. She walked across the room toward the desk, gesturing with her free hand. “Please have a seat.”

She placed the can on the corner of her desk then reached up and pulled a wooden skewer from her bun, allowing her black hair to cascade past her shoulders, then wound it again and replaced the stick as she approached the replicator near the desk. She turned back to Henry, smiling brightly. “Would you like something to drink?”

OOC: Hi Gavin! Fantastic first posts! In this thread, we’re going to help you develop your character, dig into their backstory and motivations some, give you stuff you can use in the character bio. I can’t wait to write with you and learn more about Henry!

OOC: Hi Nathan, and thank you! I can’t wait either, I’m probably going to be learning just as much about Henry as you are here, though I do have a few character dev points in mind, which I skimmed over a bit responding to Kieron. I’m excited to get some deeper originality going!

IC:
The Cadet grabbed some seat, choosing the part of the couch just in front of the top of the L. He reached down to feel the texture of the carpet. Softness was something he was becoming used to feeling mainly at bedtime, and he found the sensation somewhat relaxing.

Cadet Rodier was someone who was not often inclined to be overtly friendly or casual with his superiors. Yet, he got the feeling the woman before him was constantly observant. Whether straying from his usual inclinations would seem good or bad to a woman such as this, he did not know. Still, he thought, make a personal connection, answer the question, smile. “Thank you, sir. Call me a daisy, but I’d love just some water.” Rodier followed this response with a small, almost surprised smile.

Vanessa grinned at the cadet’s humor and turned to the replicator. “One glass of water and one cup of hot chocolate,” she requested, then carried the two cups to the seating area after the whine of the machine died down, handing Henry the glass of water and sitting a couple cushions away on the sofa.

She sipped the chocolate and hummed, then leaned back, crossing one leg over the other. “First of all, this is a very informal meeting,” she began. “Cadets are the most well-monitored group in all of Starfleet, and you wouldn’t be here if they didn’t think you were ready. This is really for me to get to know you better, so I have an idea of where we’re starting together.”

She took another sip and then cradled the cup in her lap. “Hot chocolate is my weakness,” she laughed, that bright smile coming out again. “I saw on your schedule that you’ve already seen Lieutenant Anders, so I’m sure you’ve already discussed why you joined Starfleet, and those kinds of questions, so we’ll dispense with that line of questions. What do you like to do in your off time? Any hobbies?”
