Emmy perused the information on her PaDD as she sat ramrod straight in her chair. She wasn’t sure if the information would be relevant to the situation at hand, but at least it was interesting and it gave her something to do while she waited to hear back from the various teams.

With Stadi at his side, Kyle leant over the tactical console, tapping it lightly with his fingers, “So,” he began, “How do we clear out t’exhaust pipe?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

“The exhaust.....?” Dael was brought out of his thoughts and those of the crew surrounding him at the unfamiliar term. It took him a second for his mind to connect it with something from one of his early engineering courses. “Oh, right, such as an old 19th century combustion engine from your home planet. Or was it 20th century, I never was that good at keeping track of dates.” He looked up again at the viewscreen. He thought of reaching out with his mind to it, he knew some Betazoids who could read thoughts or emotions across the vast distances between ships so long as a viewscreen connected the two. Personally, he had never tried something like that, but it could be possible, it wasn’t like he could ever turn his abilities off. He’d just have to make more of an effort to read it.... But he stayed with the task at hand. Besides, it sounded lie this “peacock” was some sort of alien animal, and Dael’s people were very hesitant to connect to an animal mind. Instead he turned his attention to Lt. Anders.

“Well, I’m not sure Lt. Sapeth would like it, considering the warp drive is currently under repairs.... But, there’s something I think we can do. Have you ever heard of the Bussard Ramscoop Fuel method, Lieutenant? If for whatever reason Federation ships are low on power, it’s a method we can use to replenish a minor supply of energy from the space around us. The ship emanates ionized radiation with a magnetic field and attracts and compress the gas that is in our galaxy, taking it in from the front of our nacelles, which small amounts of deuterium can be salvaged. Though it’s very small so it’s more for emergencies…” Dael took a breath before continuing, excited that the thought had come to him and not wanting the flow to stop. “So basically, if we can reverse this flow, basically backflush the plasma or hydrogen gas that would normally be scooped up and throw it back out.... Boom! Instant light show.”

As he finished his excited explanation another thought came to him. “If we wanted to make it more impressive I’m sure you could rig some torpedoes to do some minimal yield flashing, though I’d be concerned with the shields still not at full power and the possible reaction with the hydrogen and the torpedoes.” He stopped and focused some more on the thought before turning to Kyle for some suggestions. His confidence had been growing since a problem had been given to him. No protocols to worry about, or stray thoughts from others coming in to distract me. Just plain simple focus on a problem, this… This I can do.

-Cadet Stadi, Engineering

Kyle grinned, “You mean like a fireworks display,” he said, “Almost as if we were recreating the Riker Manuvere, just… y’know, without the exploding ships.” He looked across the Bridge at Captain Davis, “This will certainly get their attention, ma’am.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: Fantastic post, Griffin!

IC:

“This…?” Emmy enquired, her eyebrow raising in a particularly Vulcan like facial expression as she looked up from the PaDD in her hand.

Davis, CO

Kyle looked over at Dael, awaiting his explanation, “Over to you lad.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: Thank you!

IC: The confidence Dael had been feeling from coming up with potential solutions started to fade a bit when the situation turned more social. He tried to take it in stride though, he had a possible solution, and that’s why the Captain wanted him there. Lt. Anders’ reaction to his idea and jovial confident thoughts gave Dael a bit of the boost he needed. Just breath and sum it up Dael.

“Yes Captain, I think I may have a possible solution. I suggest passing it through Lt. Sapeth since the warp drive and shields are still coming back on full power, but basically we can use the ramscoops at the front of our nacelles to gather up the hydrogen gas in the space around us. Then, rather than using it to try and salvage deuterium like we would in an emergency for power, we flush the gas back out… Maybe with a little extra of our used plasma that would normally vent during routine maintenance and some minimal yield torpedoes or some flashing equivalent, and we have ourselves a potential light festival… sir.”

Dael took a breath and glanced at the readouts on the security console at the shield strength and damage report layout. “My only concern is that the gas release shouldn’t be harmful to us since it’s nothing as reactive as say metreon,” he added, nodding towards Anders, acknowledging the security chief’s recollection at another past unconventional uses of the ramscoops by a Federation ship, “…but with shields being not at full strength and the warp drive under repair, there could be an issue. Unlikely, but I feel I should mention it.”

-Cadet Stadi, Engineering

As Stadi spoke, Emmy’s body language revealed her developing interest in his report and, by the time he finished speaking, she had essentially rotated herself in her chair to be able to look at him as he presented the idea. “I appreciate the consideration of all of the potential risks, Cadet,” Emmy responded, her voice growing as warm as likely anyone on the Bridge had ever heard it. “Consult with Lieutenant Spaeth and, if he believes it is doable, do it.”

Davis, CO

The XO’s voice came over the bridge’s comm. =^= Runabout to the Bridge. We’re leaving Challenger. Will report once we see how it reacts. =^=

Shortly afterwards, the bridge’s system would show a runabout leaving the shuttle bay, and heading towards the other ship, but not on a direct line of sight between Challenger and the other ship. The runabout came to a rest shortly afterwards.
