Eric arrived at Challenger’s main shuttle bay, and headed over to one of the two runabouts. He opened the door and did a quick inventory of the storage areas, ensuring the necessary kits, tricorders and phasers were properly stored. Seeing nothing untoward, Eric headed to the control system and began the preflight sequence while he waited for the cadets to arrive.

=^=Acknowledged Commander, I can send you Cadets McAllister and Casey, I’ll send them down to the shuttle bay right away.=^=

Eric nodded to himself. Confirming the runabout was flight-ready, he sat and waited for the cadets to arrive.

OOC: Fixing the split:

Tiernan perked up as soon as he heard his name called. An away mission. With a quickening heart and a grin, he did just as he was commanded and soon set off to the shuttle bay, medical gear in tow. Upon arrival, he spotted Commander Holmman already waiting for himself and the other cadets.

“Commander,” Tiernan’s friendly Irish lilt came with an equally friendly nod. “Cadet Casey, reporting.”

(OOC: I’m also going to assume that Connor’s character has joined us - we can pretend that Connor’s character is with us, and then once he is back he can continue RP-ing in this thread.)

Eric was already in the runabout when two cadets arrived. “Come in, both of you” the XO said. “Stow your kits and we’ll get out of here.”

Closing the runabout’s hatch behind the cadets, Eric tapped the comm. =^= Runabout to the Bridge. We’re leaving Challenger. Will report once we see how it reacts. =^=

(OOC: You’ll see that I have sent communication to the bridge. This has to appear in two places: in this thread and on the bridge. So once I finish this post, I’m going to cross-post on the bridge so that they get this communication.)

=/\= Acknowledged, Commander. =/\=

As Eric spoke, he used the runabout’s link with the shuttle bay to open the bay doors. Activating the engines, the runabout lifted off the deck and started flying out into space.

“Grab a seat, cadets,” Eric said. We have a ship out there that’s behaving oddly, with no life-signs and no responses to our hails. Science is getting signals from the ship that resemble a nervous system, and the ship seems to be using plasma exhaust as a way to send some type of signals to Challenger.”

Eric smoothly guided the runabout both towards the other ship and away from Challenger so that the runabout was not in a direct line of sight between the two ships, and made sure shields were active. He brought the runabout to a rest to see if anything changed.

“If the ship is somehow alive, it might also think that Challenger is as well. We’re going to see how it also reacts to us, which might give us more insight into what is going on,” Eric explained. “Keep your eyes on the scanners, and make sure we keep Challenger informed of what is happening.”

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

As the roundabout approached the other ship it backed up slightly before commencing the brilliant display of color once again and then drifting towards the Federation explorers as a puppy approaches its master for nose boops.
