“Be there shortly, just mending a broken leg,” Sera replied as she injected the cadet with the pain relief, “You should be up and walking shortly cadet, it will just depend on how complex the fracture is, but you should be feeling some relief from that pain right now.”

~Seraphina Walsh~

The cadet smiled and winced as he got his injection before his eyes started to flutter closed when the pain and the pain medication over took him. With in moments he was slumped in a relaxed state letting the osteogenic stimulator go to work on the bone. All there was to do now, for this poor cadet, was wait. He’d heal, of course.

OOC: Hi all! I’ve made a sneaky switch from medicine to nursing. I’ll try and “step back,” so to speak, so any of our new doctors can come in and take over if they want!

IC:
T’Saie continued to close the deep burn wounds with an protoplaser whilst the other nurse monitored their condition who, just across from her, muttered something. She could only just make it out so she handed a quick nod to them as if to agree only to speak herself, “Hopefully one of the medical cadets turn up soon,” she affirmed, concerned about more casualties coming in.

Ratchet smirked under her mask and then turned to continue working on setting up for the stream of mild to moderate injuries that kept wandering in. “Oh Cadet. Don’t worry too much. I am sure no one is going to scold you if you attach a blood vessel to a nerve or anything like that.” The humor was dry. Bone dry.

She snapped around as the door opened, expecting another injured crewman. Thankfully it was just the Chief Security Officer coming in to do some work, she returned her attention to the situation at hand.

OOC: Science. ;)

Then turning to speak to the cadet, “Mr Jones, let us know if you’re still feeling any pain,” as she continued to slowly close wounds, “We’ll have you fixed promptly,” emphasizing her bedside manner as best she could.

Jones just shook his head as best he could but his eyes were fluttering open and closed being a compliant patient for T’Saie and any other medical cadet that came over to assist in the poor burn victim’s healing.

The XO’s voice came over the comm system in Sickbay. =^= Holmman to Sickbay. Dr. Walsh, we’re going to be taking a shuttle out to see how this other ship reacts. It might be some sort of artificial lifeform, though. Can you spare a couple of your cadets to join me at the shuttle bay? =^=

-Cmdr. Eric Holmman, XO

In the meantime Lt. McMorran had almost completed reconfiguring a terminal for joint scientific and medical usage. Dearly lacking in medical expertise, she glanced over to check on the CMO’s readiness before running a naive search for any entries in the medical database with similarities to the structures revealed by scans of the alien vessel.

Lt. McMorran - CSO

She handed the protoplaser to the nurse across from her and gave a nod to take over as the chime from the XO came in. T’Saie moved past the Chief Science Officer to retrieve a few sets of Medikits for the departing cadets from a storage compartment. Then moving them to a table near the door she began to go through them to ensure they all had the necessary equipment stored within before being used.

“Alright, I’ve done what I can, the device just needs to finish, Nurse French here will watch you,” Sera smiled down at her patient, “Rest for a bit, she’ll let you know when it’s safe to try putting weight back on that leg. We’ll make sure everything is healed up before we send you away,” turning to her nurse, “Let me know if anything looks off with the healing, I’ll give it another pass.”

Tapping her badge, =^=Acknowledged Commander, I can send you Cadets McAllister and Casey, I’ll send them down to the shuttle bay right away.=^=

Tapping her badge a second time, =^=Walsh to Cadets McAllister and Casey, please report to sickbay to collect your medical equipment and then report to the main shuttle bay for away team duty.=^=

Finally turning to Lt. McMorran, she walked over, “What do you know so far about this creature?” She could make her own assumptions once reviewing the scans, but she found asking her fellow department head saved loads of time and allowed her to start to formulate her own theories based her her own expertise.

~Seraphina Walsh~

The question was received by the CSO mid hand-run-through-hair and accompanying sigh; it had been a long day.

“We’re pretty darn unsure in all honesty. A scan of its relays gave a picture resembling a nervous system… that’s what we’re working from.” Biology had never been McMorran’s strength, she was very glad of Walsh’s assistance. “Ever seen anything like this?”

Lt. McMorran - CSO

It didn’t take long to go through the two medikits as T’Saie had studied and knew exactly what to be looking for. ‘They were both ready to go‘ she thought to herself, hoping the cadets don’t forget them on their way. She snapped around gracefully, looking around Sickbay she saw an excess of unnecessary equipment lying around and seeing that both nurse French and Ratchet had everything under control, she thought she had better keep being useful.

As she started walking, she let the CMO pass in-front of her before moving around sickbay to tidy up unimportant equipment and to ensure the Biobeds are ready for more patients, should they be needed.

Sera regarded the scans with her dark eyes, “It does indeed resemble a nervous system, I can’t say that I have, but we can see if we get any hits off the medical database,” she tapped a few buttons to run a comparison search.

~Seraphina Walsh~

The medical database a took a moment to return any results at all but eventually came back with the suggestion that the nervous system worked on electrical impulses alone however a lot have some sort of fluid to aid in the transmission of those signals. In short, what is happening in the ship could be a nervous system. What they are looking at very easily could be a new undocumented synthetic life form.

Aili’s hair was held up in a mess as her elbow jutted out from the side of her head. “What do we look at then to classify something as living or non-living, as we understand such things?”

Lt. McMorran - CSO

“Well this thing certainly looks like it could be something synthetic,” Sera pursed her lips, mentally stepping back through her training, “Computer, compare these scans to any known synthetic lifeforms in the database.”

She wasn’t sure if that would return any hits, but maybe if she could find a previous encounter with some similar lifeform that they could use to start to develop how to deal with this thing.

As T’Saie finished packing away equipment she meandered herself back to Cadet Wysocki, heading straight for the biobed monitor to check up on the cadets condition whilst Nurse Ratchet continued to heal his plasma burns. “How’s he doing?” she questioned with a small degree of concealed concern, tapping away at the biobed console.
