“Oh, absolutely, sir. I hope to enter into the command training program as soon as I feel I have enough experience. I don’t know if I’ll ever be up to the center chair, but as you said, perhaps it’s just a lesson I have yet to learn.” Henry paused, contemplating. “I do believe I can eventually make it to the XO position, at least. Though it might involve mating the Captain in under six.”

Vanessa’s face blanked for a few heartbeats as she struggled to connect mating with the captain. Surely he couldn’t mean… ?

Suddenly she smiled broadly and let out a laugh. “I was quite confused there for a moment,” she said, wiping tears from her eyes. “Oh, forgive me.” She chuckled again, catching her breath. She sipped her chocolate again, using the time to create a pause and gather herself.

“So that was still a little closer to work than I want us to be,” she continued, setting the cup back down. “Tell me more about ‘Henry’. Where did you grow up?”

OOC: Her reaction to that joke was basically my own as I tried to figure out what he was saying lol. Chess jokes on point.

OOC: Honestly, the wording on that was such a questionable double entendre I almost edited it out haha

IC:
Henry laughed with her, mildly confused himself until he realized exactly what he had said.

“Connecticut. My family home was about half an hour outside the state capital. Sort of a rural area, lots of solar farms. But we moved to just North of San Diego when I was fifteen, since I already knew I wanted to join Starfleet. I’m still not used to how much sun they get out there.” How far from work should we be, exactly? he thought. Testing the waters could be in order. But he held off for the moment.

She chuckled. “That is quite a difference in climes. And a big move for a family to make; and you, for that matter. Were you an only child?”

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

“No, sir. I have an older brother, he lives out in Rhode Island, a professor. He’s probably smarter than me, actually, but he wasn’t interested in Starfleet at all. His heart’s in teaching. So that left it to me. And yes, it was quite a move, I have to say, I missed the snow. The Academy gets some, but not Connecticut blizzards.”
