“No, sir. I have an older brother, he lives out in Rhode Island, a professor. He’s probably smarter than me, actually, but he wasn’t interested in Starfleet at all. His heart’s in teaching. So that left it to me. And yes, it was quite a move, I have to say, I missed the snow. The Academy gets some, but not Connecticut blizzards.”

Vanessa gave an open-throated laugh. “You’re the first person I’ve ever heard say they like blizzards,” she said, shifting to lean her side against the sofa back, legs tucked beneath her. “And I hate to break it to you, space gets even less snow than San Francisco,” she added with a grin.

She glanced at the wall chronometer and frowned. “Well, our session is almost at an end. So let me ask you: what are some areas you hope to improve while you’re here, and how can I and the senior officers help you accomplish that?”

Henry smiled, getting the sense that the Counselor took great joy in her job, that she liked to converse just as much as she liked to do hard work. “So I’ve been told. But other planets might have snow, you never know.” He shifted in his seat, trying to maintain some semblance of posture while looking at Vanessa.

“I’d just like to get a general sense of good decision-making. The Academy has some great, refined training regimes, but it’s been my experience that nothing can beat actually doing something, even a point-for-point simulation. So, put me to work, I guess is what I’m saying.” His brows knitted slightly, he continued, “And I do know that I mentioned this, but I would like to get a sense of responsibility of command, even just from observation. Lieutenant Anders seems like a great opportunity for that. But mainly, I just want to get into the thick of things.”

Vanessa gave a warm smile. “I’ll talk with Lieutenant Anders, see if we can schedule some time shadowing him. And we’re always in the thick of things, so hopefully you’ll get to see some of that ‘good decision making’ in action.”

She stood, extending her hand to him. “Well, Cadet Rodier, it has been a pleasure! I look forward to seeing you succeed, here aboard the Challenger, and in the greater fleet.”

OOC: It’s been so much fun writing with you, Gavin! Don’t forget to take anything that got brought up here and add it to your bio. Always feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need help with anything!

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

OOC: You too, Nathan! I can see how much work you put into the little details. Already added a lot of it to my bio for reference, but I’ll definitely keep you in mind to contact!

IC:
The Cadet stood, reaching out to warmly shake Vanessa’s hand. “Thank you, a pleasure indeed. I hope we’ll speak again.” He turned, heading to the door, and then had a flash of remembrance of his departure from the Armory. With a somewhat sheepish turn, he asked “Permission to leave, Lieutenant Commander?”
