Lieutenant Junior Grade Kyle Anders strode down the corridor towards Holodeck One with a sense of purpose; today was the day he would begin testing his new cadets. He had been working on this programme since his first week as CSO, and had been making additions ever since the new shuttleloads of cadets had arrived from Earth. He stopped just outside the door, activated the programme and stepped inside, tapping his combadge, “=/\= Anders to Cadet Rodier, report to Holodeck One, I have a surprise for you. =/\=”

“Aye, sir, on my way” a surprised Henry replied. With a quick jump in his step, he marched to the turbolift, saying “Holodeck One, Deck Five.” A few moments later he arrived, walking up to the Holodeck doors and stepping inside. With a straightening of his back and bringing together of his heels, the Cadet looked to Anders and said “Cadet Rodier reporting for duty, sir.”

What awaited Rodier inside the Holodeck looked to be one of the corridors on a Discovery-class starship, Anders greeted him with a grin before saying, “At ease Cadet. Welcome to my special little side project. I thought it was about time I tested your endurance, as well as your skills with one of these,” Anders gestured down to the phaser at his belt, “You and I are going to have a little race, but with a small twist. The Challenger has been boarded by several pirates hailing from the Orion Syndicate, they appear to have taken hostages, it’s our job to rescue them and get them to safety in the Mess Hall before they can take any casualties. Whichever one of us manages to rescue the most hostages wins. What do you say? Fancy giving it a crack?”

Henry relaxed his back, taking in what he knew to be a false hallway. “Absolutely, sir. It is new to me to compete against someone in such a non-team-based fashion, but I’ll give it a shot.” He glanced down at his phaser. “What power setting, sir? Level 1? Or is this a shoot to kill scenario?”
