Psych Eval. That was the last preparatory responsibility on his to-do list for the day and it was perhaps the one he was most concerned about. Oh, yes, Tiernan knew there was nothing wrong with him. At least, not in the sense that he believed that it might hinder his ability to work or his judgement. He was perfectly capable of fulfilling whatever needs the crew might have… But Tiernan did worry. He worried about his sleepless nights, and worried about the nights when he did sleep but woke up exhausted anyway because of night terrors. He worried about the tiny quirks in his routine that were curiosities to his friends and reasons for being concerned to his flatmates.

He lingered, uncomfortable, outside the office. Even that stubborn cowlick and sprang back up and his hair, which had been carefully gelled and combed that morning, had returned to its usual curly mess.

You’ll be fine, Tiernan told himself as he stared at the door, fretting. Just relax. You’re capable and intelligent. Y’wouldn’t have gotten this far if you weren’t cut out for the job. You won’t be sent away just ‘coz you’re a little off sometimes.

No, his brain argued, But they might not take you as seriously if they think you’re unstable. You’ll sound like a flighty kid.

Tiernan winced and stepped inside as the door hissed open.

“Cadet Casey, reporting for Psych Evaluation.”

The doors opened to a spacious seating area occupied by a light blue L-shaped sectional sofa. It sat on a lighter, but complementary, shade of blue, while the wall behind it was a darker shade. Centered on the wall was a painting of a couple - a man in a tuxedo and a barefoot woman in a red evening gown - dancing on a wet beach, a butler and maid nearby holding umbrellas and clutching headgear to their heads. A bare end table sat at one side of the sofa, while a red vase - the same shade as the gown in the painting - stood on the table at the other end holding a single white daisy.

Vanessa sat next to the vase on the sofa, legs tucked beneath her as she sipped a hot chocolate while reading a PADD. She looked up as the doors swished open, expecting, correctly, to see her next appointment. She smiled brightly and uncurled herself, dropping the PADD to the cushion and setting the mug of cocoa on the table. She unconsciously adjusted the wooden skewer holding her dark hair in a bun as she crossed to him, and straightened her blue-shouldered uniform top.

“You must be Cadet Casey,” she greeted him, hand extended. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Lofton, the Challenger’s counselor. Welcome aboard!” She gestured to the sofa. “Please, have a seat. Would you like anything to drink?”

OOC: Hi Sara - great post! The counselor check-in thread is where we get to delve into your character’s backstory, or develop one; dig into his motivations, fears, etc. And it sounds like you already have a good grip on that in your head, and you’ve got a great bio already filled out, which is awesome! I can’t wait to write with you and learn more about Tiernan!

Lt. Cmdr. Lofton - CNS

OOC: Just bumping so it’s still on the board when Sara returns from LOA in a few days.

Nathan
