Mason was nervous and excited to check in. He entered the Chief Science Officer’s office:

“Reporting for Duty Lieutenant!”, he said.

Despite being in uniform and good hygiene Mason’s hair style gave him a ratty appearance.

OOC: Welcome! One quick not, make sure to sign off on your posts, so we know who you are! Otherwise those he’s and she’s get confusing really quick!

IC:
“Mmhmm, at ease....” Alison said somewhat distracted from where she was bent over a microscope. “Just give me a minute....”

Without looking, she reached over and tapped a few controls. There was a brief click, and an image appeared on the monitor in front of her, it looked similar to a PET scan.

“I’m sorry about that,” she said standing up from her work bench. Pulling off a set of gloves, she threw them in the disposal unit before tucking a loose strand of hair back into place. “I’ve been tracking the rapid mutation of a fungi from Bracas V. But that’s not what you are here for,” she said gesturing to an open chair in front of the desk. She walked over and hopped up to sit on the desk itself.

“So Cadet, let’s start with the easy stuff. Who are you? And where are you from?”

Cadet Austin responded to LT Barr nervously.

“I am Mason Austin, a new science cadet. I am from Earth. My specialty is physics and mathematics but I have knowledge in all areas of science. I believe Starfleet is the best place for me to use my skills. “

Cadet Austin then gave a nervous smile.

Alison could tell that Mason was nervous as she smiled and nodded as he talked, she sure hoped that she wasn’t that intimidating. “Well welcome Mason. But first, take a deep breath. Hold it for a second… Okay, let it out. No need to be nervous, I promise I won’t bite.

“So what drew you to physics and math? To be honest those are not my strongest areas, I concentrated on biology, specifically exobiology.”

Lt Barr - CSO

Mason Responded with a smile,
“I received a book when I was a child about the solar system. I was so amazed that people could know so many things about our solar system. I eventually learned that math, physics and other sciences was the process people used to figure these things out. I knew then I wanted to dedicate my life to science. “

Alison nodded. “That is what we are here for, helping to solve the great questions of the universe! But why physics? Why not chemistry, or biology? Or even stellar cartography, especially if learning about the solar system is what drew you to science in the first place.”

Lt Barr - CSO

Mason Responded ,
“I do enjoy all of science but my draw to physics came about because many of the topics I was interested in , such as Atoms , planetary orbits , fusion etc , require physics to explain them.”

Cadet Austin -Science Cadet

Alison just nodded. “So what else interests you? Hobbies? What do you do in your free time?”

Lt Barr - CSO
