Whitfield approached the office warily, a soft, nervous smile plastered across her face. It was hard to hide and she wasn’t sure if she had the heart to do so, at least until she actually begun conversation with the department head, though, of course, that brought its own set of worries.

Exhaling sharply and hoping to bury those thoughts until a later date, she stood straight and knocked on the door.

-Cadet Olive Whitfield, Engineer

OOC: Welcome to the Challenger! Glad to have another engineer on the team! Right now I’m writing out of character (OOC), which is shown at the beginning of this post by the distinguishing “OOC:”, meaning this is just plain old me talking. You’ll see a similar one following this of me responding to your character but this time “in character” (or “IC”) as my character here on the Challenger. I’m looking forward to getting to know your character and helping you get a feel for the club and ensuring you have a great time and want to keep coming back for more!

IC:
Dael glanced up from the isolinear chip housing he was rebuilding. He had felt a newer presence in the waves of thought that his Betazoid senses picked out, but it hadn’t really registered till the knock. He frequently got caught up in his work and caused his telepathy to become white noise in the background. Honestly at times with the amount of people on a starship, it was a job perk.
“Come in!”
As the doors swished open, a rather plain and mostly utilitarian room lay behind it. A work desk was in the back of the room, in front of it two chairs and behind the desk a chair that Dael sat in. On the wall behind him a screen similar to the one in Main Engineering that showed the profile of the Challenger, complete with an up to date status of the ship. A few toolkits were hung nearby on the right wall with some pulled apart components on a side table, and on the left hung a spare uniform and another engineering console taking up most of the space . The space seemed focused on the task of keeping the Challenger running, and not one that occupant seemed to occupy most of the time. The only non-Engineering item that could be seen was a small orb on the desk, that seemed to cave in on itself but also expand out depending on how you looked at it, inside a shifting of colors made abstract patterns.

Dael turned his black eyes to the newcomer and tried to give a warm smile. He was better with fixing things than people, despite being Betazoid, but he was getting better. He recognized the face in front of him from a recent personnel file the XO had sent down his way.

“Cadet Whitfield if I’m not mistaken? Please, take a seat.” He gestured to one of the open chairs across from him. Setting his tools and the isolinears aside, he leaned forward in his chair. “I’m Lieutenant Dael Stadi, the Chief Engineer on the Challenger. I hope you had a good trip over? I know those first assignment jitters can make a shuttle ride interesting. While I track down your file here, let me ask you, was Engineering always your goal at the Academy?”
As he asked the last question he started looking around his desk until he found his PADD, hidden beneath the pile of parts his recent project had made.
