Cadet Thorpe stood outside Engineering with anticipation before the doors slid open with the familiar hiss. A nervous excitement suddenly filled in the pit of his stomach. Nervous because being in Starfleet is now hitting him just how real it is for him and not just a wonderful dream. Excited because of all the hard work he has done to get here and now. He stepped through the threshold gazing at the warp drive in awe. Thorpe shook himself back to reality of the task at hand. He needed to check in, making his way to the Chief Engineer’s office he took in all he could. Before he knew it, the doors were right in front of him. Thorpe took a little step closer, the doors opened. Thorpe stepped in and stood at attention in front of the desk. “Cadet Engineer Robert Thorpe Reporting for duty sir”.

OOC: Welcome to the Challenger! Glad to have another engineer on our illustrious team! Right now I’m writing out of character (OOC), which is shown at the beginning of this post by the distinguishing “OOC:”, meaning this is just plain old me talking. You’ll see a similar one following this of me responding to your character but this time “in character” (or “IC”) as my character here on the Challenger. I’m looking forward to getting to know your character and helping you get a feel for the club and ensuring you have a great time and want to keep coming back for more!

IC:
Upon entering the office, the cadet would have observed that beyond some toolkits and engineering consoles, the room was rather sparse. A spare uniform hung on the left wall, and on the right there were some racks for toolkits, one of which was missing. On the desk was a small orb that seemed to bend inward or outward depending on your angle and had abstract color patterns dancing around inside it. Apart from that sole decorative item, the rest of the room spoke of a straightforward workspace. However, the more of the room that was observed, he would also see that this space also lacked a worker.

After a few seconds of quiet empty silence, a square panel at knee height popped off the wall and hit the floor. Behind it a Jefferies tube opening could be seen for a moment, only to be filled by the head of a dark haired Betazoid holding a toolkit. Some work stains covered his uniform and face, but he seemed to not notice anything beyond starting to pull himself out of the confined tube as muttered to himself uninterupted. “....Rings of Betazed why do they insist on making these so damned small…”

Looking out over the room as he was halfway out of the opening, the presence of new thought patterns came into his head, and he turned noticing the cadet standing at his desk. “Ah, morning Cadet. Thorpe I believe if I remember the file Commander Holmman sent.” he gave a slight sheepish grin as he lay inside the Jeffries Tube looking up at the young man. “I was expecting you, but I’m afraid I got caught up in some repairs.” His expression then went to a more confident one as Dael switched roles from fellow engineer with the cadet to Chief Engineer.
“I’m Lieutenant Dael Stadi, Chief Engineer on the Challenger. Actually this is great timing, grab one of those spare toolkits and follow me, I’ll meet you at the junction that’s a few feet in.” he said while climbing out fully from the Tube, stretching for a moment before going back inside with his kit. Jefferies Tubes were too tight to try and turn around in whilst inside, and Dael hated to walk, or rather crawl backwards inside one.
