Well, here I am… hope I can make the old man proud, Cadet Conroy thought to himself as he made his way through the Challenger, heart pounding in his chest. He stopped for a minute to calm his nerves, breathing in… and out. Calm down brain, nothing to fear, I’m just one cadet among dozens, family history won’t save or damn me here. HE thought to himself once more. Soon enough he found himself outside the office of the CMO, closed his eyes for a brief second, and knocked on the door. ” Cadet Conroy reporting for duty.”

OOC: Hi! I’ll be taking over your check-in, since the CMO is on leave. I’m still a Cadet, and pretty new to STF myself, but hopefully I can help you get started!
Currently, I’m writing Out Of Character (OOC), which I’m showing by putting an “OOC:” at the front of my text. Below, I’ll post my In Character text using “IC:”.
Good job with your first post, by the way. It was good you included your character’s thoughts, it made me curious for what his past was like! Just one thing to point out, it’s easy to forget but it’s important to sign your posts after posting them, it helps everybody keep track of who said what.

IC:
Carmen had been filing paperwork in the CMO’s office for over three hours, so she was glad for the break that came from a knock on the door. Ever since the T’Saie, the Challenger‘s CMO, went on leave, all of the medical department’s administration had fell on her. She opened the door, seeing a Cadet in a medical uniform just like hers.
“Hello! Please, come in.” she said, gesturing inside towards the small desk. “I’m Cadet Parker-Cawlyns, I’m filling in for our Chief Medical Officer, T’Saie, while she’s on leave.”
Carmen sat down at the desk, sitting in the CMO’s chair, a place she felt almost worryingly comfortable in. “How have you been doing? Has the transition to the Challenger been smooth?”

Issac snapped off a textbook perfect salute, or half of one before common sense overrode instinct. Don’t want to give away I was taught to salute the same time I was learning to walk, too many questions could come from that. “Thanks for the warm welcome, Cadet. The transition has been smooth sailing so far, everybody has been welcoming, the few people I’ve literally bumped into anyway. And honestly to be candid, I feel more comfortable ship-side than on land, anyway.” He was deliberately avoiding eye contact as he ran a hand through ear length, messy black waves.

Carmen nodded. “That’s good, I’m glad you haven’t encountered any problems.” She could feel uneasiness radiating off the cadet, both from the way he avoided eye contact and from her Betazoid side picking up his emotions. She wanted to help him be more comfortable, but frankly wasn’t sure how. That was more of the ship councilor’s skill set. She just gave him an easygoing smile. “Why did you join Starfleet? And why the medical department in particular?”

Issac sighed, then turned his face to meet the other Cadet’s eyes. Since she’s just a Cadet, no harm in opening up a bit, he thought to himself. ” I joined Starfleet for family reasons. See going back to before there was a Starfleet, or an Alliance, there’s been a Conroy on somebody’s ship, serving ‘with distinction’, as my father would say. I Joined to serve in medicine as a small rebellion, you could say. I may be a Conroy on a ship, but I’m turning my hands to saving and helping others. I don’t expect to coast on the family honor, though, want to make my own name in the stars, you know?”
