Madison smiles warmly making direct eye contact with Carmen. “I do have a question. How much longer do you have to complete your doctorate? I bet you are looking forward to the conclusion of the degree. I’m sure that it is exciting for you. Yes?” She stretches out her arms a bit after she felt a bit tense from sitting for an extended period of time. She then set her hands in her lap and crossed her legs at her lower calves.

ooc: I have no idea how one gets an MD in starfleet, so I’m just going to make it up: First you go to school, and then you pass your tests, and then you have a ‘residency’ on a ship as a cadet, and then you graduate.

Carmen smiled excitedly. “Not much longer, I essentially already have it, I just need ship experience. I mean, I already passed the tests and everything. Just two more months and I’ll be Doctor Parker-Cawlyns.”
Carmen typed a few things on the PADD, and then handed it to Maddie. There was a brief overview of what they talked about, and a form for her to sign.
“Can you sign here, please?”
While Maddie looked over the forms, Carmen checked the time. Hallelujah, she thought. Her shift was almost over. Carmen couldn’t help but think that Maddie was pretty cool, the sort of person that she would want to be friends with. Unfortunately, many people had qualms with being friends with their doctors. It was frustrating, but there wasn’t much she could do about it.

Maddie took the PADD and reviewed the documentation. She then signed the form as requested. Maddie stood up and handed the PADD to Carmen. She turned to pick up her own datapad that she had previously set down on the table next to the bio-bed. Maddie held her PADD in her right hand on her side at hip level and shifted her gaze to meet Carmen’s. “It was a pleasure meeting you Carmen. Thanks for your time. I wish you the best of luck with finishing at the academy. Feel free to reach out to me if you need anything at all. I am sure that we will cross paths again in the near future being on the same ship.” She smiles brightly at her fellow crewmate. She then paused just in case Carmen had anything else to say before she took off on her next mission of the day.

“It was good to meet you, too, Maddie. I hope to see you around, but maybe not too often in sickbay.” she said with a smile. She stood up, and turned to go finish cleaning. She heard Maddie take a couple steps towards the door. She turned back around. “Wait, Maddie–” she started hesitantly. “My shift ends in ten minutes, would you like to get a drink or something?”

Maddie flashes a closed-mouthed smile in response to Carmen’s question. “Sure Carmen. That works for me. I will wait here and we can head out for a meal afterwards. I am still getting used to the ship, so I will allow you to lead the way on the next Challenger journey.”

Carmen nodded. “It won’t be long.” She didn’t have much left to do. She quickly finished sanitizing the few bio-beds she had left, and put away the few spare instruments that always seemed to be scattered around. Before long, her replacement arrived. Carmen hung up her lab coat, and joined Maddie in the waiting room where she had been sitting. “Do you have a preference where we go? I usually prefer the holodecks, its likely that somebody is already there with a restaurant or bar set up, and if not I have a couple of programs I like.”
