COS's Office: Cadet d'Qorvos, reporting for duty!

Posted March 6, 2021, 3:06 a.m. by Cadet Benem d'Qorvos (Security Officer) (Chris Layne)

Light preceded the mechanical intonations of the transporter beam, materializing the young trill aboard the USS Challenger’s transporter pad. A duffel bag carrying most of his belongings materialized right next to him. He wore the standard gray jacketed uniform, the yellow of his shirt’s neck peaking out from underneath, bereft of rank pips–at least for now. Stepping off the pad, Cadet Benem d’Qorvos couldn’t keep the grin off his face. The amused look that the transporter’s operator gave him told him he should keep his excitement under control before he started skipping and clapping his heels together down the corridor’s of the discovery-class ship.

“First time aboard a ship, Cadet?” she asked.

“Yes, sir,” the trill replied, taking a few steps and closing the space between him and the console the operator was behind. “Well, sort of. I’ve flown shuttles, but nothing this big, yet.”

“Yet?”

“Oh yeah,” he leaned on the console. The trill seemed quite confident in himself, “Trust me. I’m going to be the best pilot in Starfleet. You’d better remember my name.”

Raising a brow, the young woman asked, “And what name is that supposed to be?”

“Benem d’Qorvos,” he told her.

“Well, Mr. d’Qorvos,” she said with feigned sweetness. As she spoke, her tone evolved into something much more grave, “If you don’t report for duty soon, you may find yourself flying yourself into Waste Extraction duty.”

“Sounds like a crappy assignment!” Ben grinned, pleased with himself, as he returned to the transporter pad and picked up his duffel bag, slinging it over his shoulder. The woman groaned, the pun had made her physically ill. “Don’t worry, you’ll learn to love them! Thanks for everything!”

He disappeared out the whooshing door as quickly as he’d appeared.

She shorted, shaking her head with a bemused expression. “Cadets…”

=^= Deck Seven, =^= Benem said as soon as he entered the turbolift. It toned out a confirmation and immediately they were in movement. The doors spread open, revealing the ship’s bustling interior.

In the weeks before the posting, Ben scoured the databases, searching for everything and anything he could find about the Challenger. He knew where most of the ship’s operating stations where, as well as important labs and offices–in this case, the information was helpful. He had a fairly easy time reaching the Chief of Security’s office. Entering, he presented himself, “Cadet d’Qorvos, reporting for duty!”
