Lieutenant Kyle Anders looked up and smiled warmly as the young Trill stepped over the threshold of his office, “Good afternoon Cadet,” he glanced down at the PADD in his hand, “d’Qorvos. Please, take a seat.” As the young man slid himself into the chair opposite the Security Chief, he asked, “What made you decide to join Starfleet, as well as the Security division in particular?”

Ben took the seat that was offered and tried not to make himself look too comfortable. As Anders spoke the Trill’s eyes darted around the office, taking in the details, trying to see if he could learn anything about the Lieutenant from his Office. Finally he settled on the Security Chief as the man finished his question, and grinned, “To explore strange new worlds, sir, and fly the fastest, best engineered ships in the Galaxy to get to them.”

Shrugging, Ben considered what else to add for a moment. “Though to be honest, sir,” he continued. “I want be the best pilot Starfleet has ever seen.” Arrogant, maybe. Perhaps a lot, but there was sincerity in his words, too. He had a goal, and was optimistic about it, at least for now! “As for why Security… well, someone has to keep the scientists and engineers out of trouble! And help carry their boxes, if the Engineering students are to be believed.”

Kyle chuckled, “It’s amazing what rumours you can start when you briefly date a student in Engineering, good times. So, piloting, do you have much experience to date?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

“Well, I took multiple courses at the Academy. Spent a semester on Venus and another in the Asteroid belt,” he began. Both had been amazing experiences–Venus had taught him to fly in erratic and dangerous weather conditions and during his time in the belt he’d learned the finer arts of maneuvering in space. “My friend Noah and I fixed a broken down shuttlepod, flew that around for a while–with my license!” It was important to make sure that bit was clear, as it had been a point of contention the first time he’d applied for the Academy. “Worked as a transport pilot on a station orbiting Jupiter for about a year, too.”

“Really?” Anders paused, scanning the new cadet’s face, “Then what made you change to Security?”

OOC: Just a little thing I forgot, remember to put ‘<snip>‘ when you do trim a post! You’re doing great otherwise!

Benem frowned, unsure of what Anders meant for a second. As far as he knew, he had to go through Security to get where he wanted. He wasn’t the son of an Admiral, so it wasn’t as if he was going to get special treatment–if he wanted to be a Helm Officer he was going to have to prove he had what it takes.

“The yellow, sir,” Benem answered with a playful grin and tugged at his still pip-less collar. “It really brings out the color in my eyes.” He followed up with a shrug and quickly adding, “I may have my goals, sir, but I want to be useful to Starfleet until I get there. I figured shuttle pilot and security officer went hand in hand.”

Kyle chuckled, “Forgive me Cadet, it’s been a long day.” Anders made a note on his PADD to remember to get the young Trill into Holodeck piloting simulations, “So, is the role of helmsman where you want to be for the rest of your career in Starfleet?”
