Lieutenant Kyle Anders clocked out of his shift in Security and made his way to Holodeck One; he felt like he needed to unwind. As he approached the Holodeck Access controls, he keyed in his personal access code and activated his go-to programme, the Treble Clef Jazz Lounge. He stepped into the lounge and gave Zee, the lounge’s Bolian barmaid, a polite nod. He ordered a neat, non-syntheholic Whiskey and necked back a shot glass full.

Carmen and Cadet Maddie Marsh stood in front of Holodeck one. She read off the current program.
“The Treble Clef Jazz Lounge. It’s open for anyone, do you want to go for it?” she asked.

-Cadet Parker-Cawlyns (Medical)

Maddie glances upwards at the title ‘The Treble Clef Jazz Lounge’ as Carmen reads it off to her. The title brings back a memory of a Jazz club back on Earth in her home country of Australia that donned the same name. She turned her head back just slightly to meet Carmen’s gaze and shruged her shoulders casually. “What the hell? Why not give it a try?”. The doors both extend open and Maddie walks into the holodeck simulation first. Her eyes dart from left to right examining the lounge, the casually dressed people, and was taking in the lovely sound of Jazz music. She looked over at the bar and could see Lieutenant Anders in his Starfleet uniform which made him stick out like a sore thumb. She glances at Carmen once again. “Do you know the man at the bar? This must be his simulation. He is the only person from Starfleet that I can see in here. Unless I missed someone along the way.”

Cadet Marsh (Science)

“I recognize his face, but no, I can’t say I know him.” She also let her eyes wander over the bar and its patrons, and then over the whole establishment. It wasn’t quite the place Carmen would choose, but it seemed comfortable enough. The jazz music was pleasing at least, and Maddie seemed to like it.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a rather embarrassing growl from her stomach. “I don’t know about you, but I’m starving.” said Carmen, heading up to order.

Maddie follows Carmen to the bar. She stood between Kyle and Carmen. She observed Zee, the Bolian barmaid bring a neat whiskey to Kyle. Her eyes scanned his collar to determine his rank to assist her in addressing him since she did not know his name. She provided him with a friendly smile and her voice was full of confidence in herself. “This is a nice simulation. It reminds me of a place back home in Australia. Is it your creation Lieutenant?” Her voice clearly having a distinctive Australian accent helping confirm her statement in regards to her origin.

Kyle smiled, “Oh, good evening Cadet, forgive me, I’d forgotten that I made the programme public. Lieutenant Kyle Anders, Chief of Security, at your service. Can I get you anything?” He glanced at the bar and grinned, “And you Cadet.... forgive me, I’m not completely aware of the science and medical assignments yet.” The security chief smiled and extended his hand.

Maddie reacted by standing at attention and offered the Lieutenant a salute in her attempt at humor while off duty. Her eyes aligned with his own and she held a serious tone in her voice. “Cadet Maddie Marsh. Science Officer candidate. Sir.” She then fell at ease and a magnificent smile came across her face accompanied by a light chuckle. Maddie shook his hand, then sat down on a bar stool, and made herself comfortable at the bar. “Now with all joking aside, I will have an order of chicken curry with a Risan mai-tai to drink.” She gestured to Carmen behind her with her thumb. “And this is a future Chief Medical Officer right here.” Maddie turned toward Carmen and flashed a grin. “Feel free to introduce yourself to the Lieutenant. I have taken enough of the spotlight already.”

-Cadet Marsh (Science)

Kyle grinned and stepped over to the replimat while the other Medical cadet began to speak.

Carmen turned around, offering her hand towards her the Lieutenant. “I’m Cadet Parker-Cawlyns, sir, but that is a bit of a mouthful. You can call me Carmen.” she said with a smile, and then glanced over at Maddie. “I’m sure that Maddie here will end up CSO long before I’m the head of medical. I read her resume, she’s got a PhD and two masters already.” she said playfully. She picked up her meal, having already received the french-dip sandwich and lemonade she had ordered a minute ago, and moved to sit next to the older cadet.
“How long have you been on the Challenger, sir? Do you like spending your days keeping unruly cadets in order?”

-Cadet Parker-Cawlyns (Medical)

Kyle sniggered, but tried to keep a straight face, “If I wasn’t in a good mood Cadet, I’d report you to Lieutenant T’Saie for that.” He glanced quickly at Cadet Marsh and winked, “I’ve been serving aboard for about ten months now, I expect I’ll be moving off quite soon.”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

Maddie grinned in response to Carmen’s comments about becoming a CSO. “Only time will tell Carmen. Howeve,r there is more to being a CSO than simply acquiring degrees. Leadership ability and the delivery of results play a crucial role as well.” She kindly advises her new friend. Maddie then furrows her eyebrows for a moment appearing slightly confused and curious at the same time after hearing about the Lieutenant’s potential departure from the Challenger. “Why do you expect to be moving off so soon Lieutenant?”

-Cadet Marsh (Science)

“You never know when adventure may call out to you Cadet.” Kyle grinned and winked at the young medic.
